Qantas
Platinum
We are flying on Fijian next week and want to use the F lounge in Sydney. I know Mr FM and I are OK, as we booked the Qantas code share, but we are travelling with two friends and I have just had a rather confusing conversation with her, but at the end of it I rather think they booked on the FJ number, rather than the code share. They are total novices and had no idea what a code share was. I gave them the flight numbers to book, but although she booked at the Qantas site I think she picked the wrong ones.

Anyway my question is will I be able to guest them in (same flight), or will Qantas refuse (not a Qantas or one world flight no)? Any point in asking nicely for a one off exemption. I was so excited at thinking I could guest them in, but it looks like it has gone wrong!

We were not allowed into the F lounge despite booking J on Qantas points and both being Platinum. Yes we flew on Air Fiji and flights were fine. We won’t bother going back to Fiji.

That would have been FJ code though?

Qantas have reworded "must be travelling on the same flight" to "must be travelling on QF or oneworld flight number" in the new Lounge Access Eligibility page

Sorry to say you are likely out of luck..

Yes this is what I thought. Damn - was really looking forward to surprising them with an F lounge visit. Might just give it a whirl and see what happens. If you are polite it does no harm.....

Certainly worth a try. Can play dumb and go the "I thought FJ had a relationship with oneworld now?" route, although the # condition on the lounge access page does specifically exclude oneworld connect partners..

Yes - playing dumb come naturally :) My friends are in their mid 70s and one doesn’t drink at all and the rest of us would only have one glass so we would not be a big user of resources. To be honest they will probably think the horrid J lounge is just amazing :)

If I ever travel with friends again, I will sit with them while they book their flight or get Madrooster to do it! I do not know what more I could have done than give them the exact flight numbers to book!

The wording of "QF or oneworld..." makes it interesting because FJ is semi-oneworld ("oneworld connect"). Officially through the various wordings F lounge would not be available to them (as noted above) but as guests of WP's on the QF "flights"? Worth a try.

If they are in J they can use the QF J lounge with FJ flight numbers. If in Y, they're out of luck.

They are in J and if we can’t guest them into the F lounge, then we will go to the J lounge with them. I just said to Mr FM I will need to bite my tongue and pretend I think the J lounge is marvellous so as not to spoil the experience for them :)

After an ever increasingly confusing series of emails from my friend, I think she has booked the Qantas codeshare to Fiji and the Fiji one coming back! So yay! We can go to the F lounge instead of J - although I won’t actually feel confident of that until I see their boarding passes! Pity - I had been practising my best wide-eyed dumb look, combined with soulful pleading.
