I emailed Emirates speculatively to ask if they would match my Platinum membership. Got a reply back today saying they would give me gold status once I have booked and completed a Business class trip with them. My normal route is LHR - SYD (which they know as I sent them an activity statement with the request) a business class return fare with Emirates according their website pretty much gives me the miles I need for Gold membership anyway - doesnt seem much incentive for me to use them.

They rejected my request as WP

I would wait till next year and see if they introduce a Platinum level, but you do realise Gold status doesn't get you into their F lounges if you're in J... their F lounges are only for those travelling F.

It's not the most generous program... why are you considering it?

So even less of an incentive for me to move from their Competitor! Have to say I am happy with the VA/Etihad flights just trying to open up my route options to take advantage of good fares - CX are considering my request

CX are even harder to maintain status, it's 120,000 miles a year!

If considering Emirates, consider flights ex-AKL, they'll be cheaper, but as you can tell, will pretty much earn your status in a return.

WOW!
Emirates are doing really well with F then.
The 2 times I've been in the F lounge at DXB it's been busy. How many IO members do they have?

Also makes me question the relevance of the F lounge in Brisbane.

Got a reply back from Cathay they will match me to Silver in the Marco Polo club. Doesnt award me the same benefits as Va Plat but at least it gives lounge access when flying with Cathay.
