Emirates skywards experience

Hi everyone, long time lurker on the forum for all the great travel insights and information. Not a fan or user of social media at all, but recently decided to join this community. I just wanted to share with everyone the recent experience I’ve had with emirates.

I’m a 20 year customer of emirates, 5 year gold member and over that time have had generally a great experience and service from the airline and very little to complain about. Over this time however, I’ve definitely seen standards and service declining, whilst paying more and earning less in terms of miles and loyalty benefits.

I recently flew on a SYD-CDG return flight, which earned 13000 tier miles. This was booked during double tier promotion in January, which would earn me 26000 miles. I required 24500 to keep my gold status for a further 12 months.

On returning to Sydney, my account said I had earned 13000 miles only for the flight and my gold status had not been retained. After 2 live chats with emirates, I then received an email that could not be replied to that I didn’t book my flight during the double promotion period.
Fortunately, I kept the email from the double points promotion I had booked my flights with for evidence, where it took another live chat with emirates to get through to them that I had indeed booked during the promotion and was eligible for the double tier miles.

After another 3 days of waiting, I then received another email saying yes, I had booked my flight during the promotion period and that 11000 miles had been credited to my account. This is 2000 miles short of what I had earned, my account should have shown 26000 miles, but was only 24000 miles, hence 500 miles short of retaining my gold status.

Another email was sent, not responded to after waiting 3 days. I then called emirates, with them saying yes it looks like a mistake had been made and we will get our team to fix it. I waited another 3 days, no response. Then after 3 weeks of back and forth and another phone call, I finally get an email response saying yes the 26000 miles have been credited to my account and my gold status retained for another 12 months.

For someone who has been a very loyal customer and a long term gold member, I found my treatment and service I had received as extremely disappointing and insulting. I simply should not have had to waste so much of my time following up something so small. I also got the distinct impression that emirates were doing everything they possibly could to ensure I didn’t gain the double tier miles and therefore not have my gold status retained for another 12 months. If I didn’t take my time to keep following it up, it wouldn’t have changed at all.

I just wanted to share this frustrating experience I’ve had with everyone as a bit of a warning, and ask if anyone else has had a similar issue with emirates lately ?

A very disappointing experience from what many believe to be the best airline. Whilst I have not had the pleasure of flying Emirates to date, it’s good to hear your persistence ensured you were awarded your correct entitlement.
