I'm flying Sydney to Birmingham via Dubai - Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 777-300.

Two adults plus two children.

Qantas is big on how you can download the app before the flight to your device and download movies etc.

But What if you don't want to carry iPads and iPhones on the flight with you?

For each of the listed planes, does anyone know if there is still the option to watch movies in the back of the seat in front of you? Presumably if there is this option then it's via the headphones supplied by the airline?

Hope this helps and you can go on the Emirates app and chose your favourites prior to the flight and then link with your seat once on board.

Wow this looks great. It kind of implies that the seatback TV is available on 'all' flights; how can I be sure of that?

Either way thanks very much for the information

I assume you are flying in Economy and all seats on both the 380 and 777 have seat back screens (well some have them in the armrest :)) for you and the family.

The seat-back screens are a little small, and the person in front reclining can make it hard to see yours because they don’t tilt up enough to compensate for the seat-back being tilted back; I suspect this is the main reason those in economy might want to take their own device. This comment is brought to you by Qantas A330-200/-300, 747-400 & 737-800 … I haven’t done economy in any A380 or 777, maybe the Emirates (or Qantas?) ones tilt further or have a screen that can be seen from wider viewing-angles.

You can take your own headphones, especially good if you have noise-cancelling ones, but check the relevant airline for plug compatibility in case an adapter is needed. :) I’m not sure whether the seat would offer wireless connectivity, in fact I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t due to the complexity of over 400 passengers all trying to connect to their own seats, so if you have wireless ones I suspect they’ll need to be able to connect to a plug that can go into the headphone socket in the seat.
