Is anyone else having problems with the new rules governing Emirates Skywards program? I recently forfeited a small portion of a return ticket middle East OZ Middle East and have now been told that I don't get the miles for the flight i actually took from melbourne to Dubai! The bulk of the miles. I don't get them because i did not complete the segment! Is this the way other programs operate? Does anyone know a way around these rules?
My mistake was I had multiple tickets I was juggling between Europe / the Middle East / Asia and OZ. Loyalty it appears is not valued any more. Is it time to look for a new carrier?

Emirates only award miles once completing all sectors in a "trip", it seems you have fallen foul of these rules. You may get some advice from FT Skywards forum, as more Emirates customers would view that forum than here on AFF. But if you do don't go on the attack, ask for advice - whether there is anything that can be done about it?

Absoutely ridiculous on EK's part... No other airlines operates like that and come on, how many people skip segments on their ticket!?

What about if you credit the miles for example to Alaska Airlines, are they also submitting the file just after the last cupon?

Re: Emirates new rules - you don't get the miles you fly unless you finish the ticket

Someone reported on FT that they successfully got their miles after calling EK and cancelling the remaining leg.

I have no issue with this.they sell you a ticket based on a set of fare rules. People who thro away ticketing to avoid the rules that they agreed to shouldn't get the points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

From what I know, these Skywards restrictions were put in place a couple years ago to make it impossible to earn miles after a stopover and redeem them for the onward journey. Before these came into place, DXB flyers were at a disadvantage because availability for upgrades was mostly redeemed by flyers outside of DXB (those en route to other destinations).
There were also changes to upgrade availability based on POS that came along at the same time.

I understand the frustration of the OP. Specially the way EK segments its markets and how some are forced to go out of their way to save a pile of dollars.

Throw away ticketing is not an issue here. The 'rules' that some like to moan about are put in place by humans and are always subject to change without notice :)

As mentioned in my previous post, someone on FT got their miles but only after calling EK to cancel their onward leg which forced the system to take DXB as the end point and hence calculated and credited the miles accordingly.

Not sure if I am missing something here but I recently (in the last 2 months) had a return flight from Perth to JFK via Dubai and my miles for the Perth-Dubai-JFK flights were credited to my account within 2 days of landing in New York and promptly used to upgrade for the return trip. I fly EK every month and my miles are always credited within days of each flight and not at the end of each ticketed trip.

The problem isn't the miles posting after the outbound vs the return, it's the miles posting after a stopover enroute. Say instead of flying Perth-Dubai-JFK return you stopped in Dubai for 3 months first, you wouldn't get the miles for the Perth-Dubai sector for 3 months until you completed Dubai-JFK.
