Friends

In my inbox this morning was an unsolicited offer from EK for an upgrade from Y to J (AMS DXB) for Euro568 (~AUD670).

Thank you for choosing to fly with Emirates. We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to upgrade your travel from Economy Class on flight EK0148 on xx_x from Amsterdam to Dubai. This limited offer is available on a first come first serve basis at the special price of EUR 538.00 per person.

Surprised, I logged on only to see the message ".... no more seat is available..."

Granted the EK email arrived at 9pm on Sunday night when I did not check my email so someone else would have taken up this generous 1st come, 1st serve offer.

Have you heard of this rather generous offer from EK ?

I wonder if there is any similar for J to F ????

Now, if only our Qantas could one day have something similar ?

OK, now I need to check my emails more often - incl. Sunday nights

A friend at work got a similar offer (can't remember the exact price, but it was cheap) for EK between DXB and CDG on the 380. I told her to accept it immediately, which she did.

Her first time flying J - she loved it.

QF do do cash upgrades at the airport for some non Australian departure points.

Thanks for the information, legroom and Blackswan. This is timely as I'll be flying EK (albeit on a QF codeshare) to DXB on 24 April, so I should keep a lookout for an email this Sunday night... How far in advance did you/your friend at work receive the offer?

In my case, about 10-14 days out

But I am not saying it will come.

It is probably a random computer event (like the mythical QF DSC for which I keep looking at my spam box in vain)

Thanks, isn't it always the case that you won't get something if you're anticipating it? I was booked on BA and didn't expect to receive a similar offer which I then gladly took up... I won't have high hopes so at least I'll have a pleasant "surprise" if that email does appear!

It was three days prior to her flight.

It was the only offer she got, she didn't get one for PER-DXB, CDG-DXB or DXB-PER

Right place, right time, right flight... She must be glad she took up the offer!

Mate of mine and his wife got this for the BKK-SYD with Emirates a few weeks ago. It worked out about $600 AUD for the two of them, they took up the offer without hesitation.

I hope this thread helps another person checking his email ... when he is not normally scheduled to (like Sunday 10pm in my case), in order to pounce on the offer forthwith.

By the time I opened the Inbox at 8am, it has "no seat left" :(

My mother had the offer MAN-DBX, but missed it with the "no seat left". However at the airport, there was as a sign up with the same offer, which she did take up.

And what class of airfare (not cabin)

Two of us got offered upgrades to J on MEL to DXB a couple of years ago, it was $750 each, which was an awesome price. I just checked my archived emails and the offer came 80 hours before the flight. Maybe there is a T-80 trigger for the offers?

As an aside there was a heap of ODU's in J and no one in F on our flight however Y was oversold quite a bit (according to ground staff). I wonder if there comes a point at T-80 where the offers are sent out to try and avoid leaving pax behind in Y?

Cheers,
boof

I have never flown EK and ask how full are their flights. A few years ago, my in-laws flying Y to AKL were given a free upgrade to J in both directions. They rarely flew and had no loyalty cards.
