If you are travelling HLO you can check in 24 hours prior. Otherwise 3 hours before with luggage.

Thanks for that, how does that work with HLO as would you not still need to go to check in desk being international?

Checking in 24 hours before online means you can print the boarding pass. That's all immigration need. When you get to the EK lounge, they will sight your passport and all good.

Thanks Jessica much appreciated.
Do you only require boarding pass to access the QF First lounge? Cheers

Jessica, excuse my ignorance but here goes :) EK has 3 flights departing to DXB from MEL per day. For F passengers, why is not possible to check in earlier if the check in counters are already open? For example if I leave at 10.25pm, why can't I check in when the counters open up for the 7pm flight?

I have been told you can't, but I don't see the logic to why you can't?

And this question is based on me having luggage to check in.

Thanks for your help.

It becomes logistically difficult for airlines to store luggage for flights more than 3 hours out. And yes, I know that if you had a connection more than 3 hours the luggage is stored - however they have systems in place for that.

Coincidentally I had a chat about luggage to the QF F checkin agents Saturday morning just gone. They said they have enough trouble keeping luggage 3 hours out as MEL's luggage system was 'hopeless' or words to that effect.

If you have luggage and would like to spend more time 'airside' one solution is to add a connecting flight before MEL-SIN and have the checkin agent check the luggage through. Of course that means you have to get to that new originating airport to do so. Perhaps not worth the effort. YMMV

Thanks a heap for the info Jessica :) Much appreciated. Considering my trip is a total of 10 days and I'm flying F, I think I can somehow manage to take only carry-on.

Thanks so much Jessica your advice
Is so appreciated. Just wondering do you know what hours the Emirates Melbourne lounge is open? Cheers

Jessica, re post 5 you refer to sighting passport at EK lounge, however we are intending to use the QF lounge, can we still access this earlier in the day just with our online check in boarding pass? As the EK lounge wont be open at the time we intend to get to the QF lounge.

I'm quite certain a print out of your boarding will be sufficient to get into the QF lounge.

Yes you can. It is only the actual carrier who needs to sight the passport. Regardless of which lounges you have already visited.

Thanks, so given Emirates check in wont be open, and we go direct to QF first lounge, will we then need to go to the Emirates lounge when it opens for Passport to be sighted? Thanks again

If you don't get it sighted in the EK lounge, you will be pulled up at the gate for it to be done there.
