Emirates commits to first-class luxury long haul

While an announcement is expected from Qantas soon that it will reduce the number of first-class seats on some routes, Emirates confirmed last week its commitment to premium passengers.

Emirates' vice-president in Australia, Stephen Pearse, says first-class suites will remain on all the airline's long-haul flights. "We are committed to three classes and the premium passenger," he says.

Much like the JQ charter may be directed at TT, seems like EK is seizing on QF's self-inflicted perception of premium passenger neglect - might make a difference for pax still wanting to fly First out of ports other than SYD to Asia (other than SIN) or Europe (other than LHR).

If only Skywards was part of one of the major alliances!

Meh; they may not be in an alliance but if not wanting EK miles ( which tend to be v good earning in 1st class and much better value than QF earning , mies can be credited to UA iirc

Maybe if QF charged $10000 in First to Europe there wouldn't be so much of a neglect of First class! (Even if you made it $11000 to cover extra staff wages over those paid in the Middle East.)

From Europe they do . With 42 days Advance Purchase the QF AAP fare is $8822 plus taxes ; without AP is around $11436. Without the AP , then QF is about $2000 more expensive than say EK

Obviously, ex Australia QF is a complete rip off at $17800 plus tax to UK r.t and there are a lot more better priced and better quality options.

In a sense, I don't think EK has a choice.

EK wouldn't be doing themselves any favours by cutting premium seats.

Mind you, QF aren't doing themselves favours either, but it seems that in the upper management's wisdom and those of shareholders , the only way to keep the balance sheet afloat is to cut premium seats.


EK mightn't be part of an alliance, but you can get DJ points from them.

They only charge these fares because they think that they can get away with it as it stands; if the only way they could sell the fares would be by getting people to pay extra for extra miles they would drop the fares

You can credit the miles to UAMP, but they aren't counted as EQM.

True. Personally I am quite happy crediting them to Skywards; not a bad scheme ; much better earn to redeem rates than get with Qantas imo

Just as committed as previously, just less often

Think of it like a binary option. Its either committed or not, either yes or no.
