Does HSP use Peter Thomas Roth shampoo etc?

As Swanning_it mentioned, they are very generous with their amenity kit. On top of the regular stuff they give tooth brush, shaving kit, large soaps and even mouth wash. Usually you need to call and ask for all this extra stuff at other Hiltons in Australia.

No bath salts though! My delicate skin didn't know what had happened .

In all honesty though, the amenity kits are very changeable across the Hiltons, but if you need anything, just ring and ask and it's usually delivered without fuss. I did note at HSW, that they offered a Coles style grooming kit in a bag for $15.....HSP beats that with the similar things in room as complementary, but HSP doesn't offer the same in the residences (IIRC).

I have a few more before than, so I'll report back how they compare if you like.

I did notice on our weekend stay, an amenity kit I can't recall ever seeing before at an Aussie Hilton, which may be of interest to you beardoc...........a razor kit! ;)

Not bloody likely. :)

Our next stay at HSP is tomorrow night and I'm seeing on-line, a three level room upgrade from a 1 bedroom residence to a 2 bedroom sky residence, so looking good just now.

Received the upgrade as mentioned.

Room was fine, no turn down or chocolates offered but received everything else + 1.30 check-in and 2.00pm check out offered.

Note: at check-in I was asked for my Gov't ID for the first time ever (I had it on me). When I commented that it was the first time I had ever been asked for it, the lady said a note was on my file to check for it. Maybe OnQ monitors usage of the Gov't rates and I certainly don't use them all the time (only when they're the best value ), so anyone using gov't rates without ID, tread carefully!

Lounge was back to normal. Boring food, but at least there was food. Afternoon tea was, well...........I'll show you......the below pic is all that was brought out.

Bon Appétit

PS.....forgot to mention, we didn't really bother with the lounge. Had nice canapes (of sorts), drinks and a meal down at the Irish bar in Cavill Ave, which is very busy and vibrant of late. Why sit up there and stew over a poor selection when you can be down enjoying a lovely end to a near perfect winters day :D in a bustling and fun atmosphere?

The view looks lovely, though the afternoon tea?? Did the Tea Lady resign? How sad..
That pseudo Hilton doesn't appear one of my favoured properties.. :(

I think I see the leftover pastries from breakfast and a bowl full of biscuits (I suspect them to be butter cookies or butter cookies with raisins).

Well... I guess it's free...

They do have tea, coffee and soft drinks, yeah?

To be fair, I think the Brisbane Hilton Exec Lounge doesn't do much better in this regard. I think the last time I recall it was perhaps a danish like pastry or two, possibly mini cheese and ham croissants and biscuits.

Can't remember what the arvo spread is like in other Australian Hiltons. The Hilton Budapest Castle was really good, with at least half a dozen varieties of cakes.

It appears Hilton has limited consistency.. At least for the EL offerings..

I'm booked to stay at HSP in October for 3 nights at just over $200/night. I am Gold. What do you think the liklihood of getting an upgrade to an Exec floor room is at that (fairly low) rate?

Last time I stayed there was last October, for 2 nights. I was Gold then too. I put in a NOR1 request for an Exec floor room then as I thought it was worth doing so for the two nights. If I do it this time, I will be getting too close to $300 a night for my liking, so I don't really want to do it unless people here think I am unlikely to get an upgrade without doing so. Look forward to hearing your thoughts :)

^^ This one! Yes tea, coffee and soft drinks were available but I saw a lady having to open the coffee machine to steal that milk for her tea :(.

Bne is far better with all the selection you mention plus nuts and chocolates!

Hotel or residence?

unless you suggest otherwise.

No I agree.

Hotel is better than residences unless you have kids than it would depend upon the number.

I'm not sure if it helps but HSP has always been excellent with my upgrades (as diamond). I think other gold members have experienced exec room upgrades which will give you exec lounge access. The residences do not automatically allow exec lounge access but it can be given. I personally think the hotel gives you a better chance!

Not in my experience. They upgraded me as a Diamond to an Executive Room, and then tried to tell me they were doing me a favour as the better rooms had more street noise!

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Date: 30 August
Booked: King Guest
Received: King Executive (14th floor, one down from exec. lounge)
Rate: $148 (Gov't)

Check-in - Excellent. Phoned the lovely Lindy about 8am, who gave us early check-in from whenever we wanted (arrived approx. 11am) and Freddie handled check-in without fault and with great charm and warm conversation. Can't fault it.

Lunch was taken in perfect GC sunshine at the SP SLSC. Great atmosphere, nice food, great price, service however was a bit ordinary (but not devastatingly bad).

Afternoon tea - Wow........still below par, but about 300% better than the last few weeks. The coffee machine worked perfectly (for a change), the food offered was carrot cake, shortbread biscuits, shot glasses of yohurt and berry compote, fruit salad, tubs of yogurt, nice lemon tartlets and the ubiquitous jelly beans ....

Happy Hour - Now this is new.......4-6pm Fri and Sat in the Food Store, they're offering $5 happy hour drinks. We spent an enjoyable hour or so sitting in the front window (Amsterdams red light district meets Amityville Horror ;)) watching the Orchid Ave Friday arvo people parade.

Canapes and drinks - Like afternoon tea, not to the standard of all other Hilton Oz lounges, but wow, what a huge leap forward from 2 weeks ago! Still the antipasto staples, but at least there was plenty there. This was complemented by a really enjoyable beef stroganoff and pasta dish, fresh bread (really nice fresh, fresh bread), leftover afternoon tea, a nice cheese selection with heaps of crackers, a pea and ham soup (ordinary according to my +1) and of course bloody jelly beans! The drinks were plentiful and restocked as necessary and all round an almost enjoyable experience.

Although not in room at time of (early) check-in, the fruit platter and water (one still, one sparkling) was delivered shortly later along with the GM card. Turn down was not exactly a turn down, but we were offered another two bottles of water and 4 chocs.

We booked the theatre for our daughter and she watched Night at The Museum 1 for yet another time, but the private huge screen and 12 or so seat theatre is also an enjoyable freebie and Lisa and I ended up there as well (forgot how fun that movie actually is)!

The afternoon was filled in with the ladies around the pool (too windy for me) and me having a nana nap!

Still have to see if the morning paper arrives, how well they do breakfast and if my booking lurk works again tomorrow at check out! We intend to have fish and chips on the beach tomorrow for lunch and hopefully will score a late check-out (Sat nights are normally busy so maybe not too).

With this stay, I'm very satisfied.......so far ;).

(PS - Given I haven't spoken to Lindy since Christmas and she knew me when I phoned this morning, does that mean I'm an exceptionally big PITA or she is an exceptionally good HH ambassador? I'm not sure if I should be honoured or peeved :D)

Part 2.....
Morning newspaper delivered to the door. Breakfast in Salt for 3 offered and taken. We've noticed the buffet breakfast is not as good as it used to be. Very good value when complementary, but I would not like to be paying $35 or so for it. No express check-out envelope under the door (this is the third stay without receiving this and given HSP can be bedlam at times at the check in/out desk, it's somewhat odd that they seem to have canned this benefit). Perfect weather but the pool bar was still not open (in 2 weeks it apparantly comes alive again). Late check-out until 2pm was offered and accepted and an apology was offered that they couldn't give us longer as they were full for Sat night. Lobby was packed at 2pm so we checked out in the lounge. No charge again for the trundle so my booking method is scoring 100% success rate here so far.

All round, a very pleasant stay with perfect winter weather again and virtually no complaints. We've definitely decided the hotel is far superior to the residences as there is virtually no wait for the elevators and the rooms we've had so far are a nice size (even had a small balcony this time). I'm hopeful a little bit of Hilton is finally starting to creep back into HSP, but we'll wait and see. From a recent report on the other thread, it seems inconsistancy still dogs them.
