Eligible Sectors

IMO eligible sectors are irrelevant until 25 August. I see no point getting worked up when they are not being used at the moment. Whose to say what will happen on 25 August when the go button on sectors is pushed.

Agreed to a degree. Issue is the information provided by VA states that eligible sectors will be visible from xx.xx.2011 but not taken into account until 25 Aug 2012 so impact until 25 Aug 2012 is nada. However if it is an oversight and they are unaware of it then that is an issue that needs to be addressed now (or soon) as with all things it takes time to make a change. The fact is large systems take a considerable period (many months generally) to change because there is a generally a very rigid set of steps that need to be adhered to to get changes in. I imagine the IT system used by Virgin is not trivial and has a formal SDLC which must be followed to make changes.

And my point was they could very well be showing wrong now because the system will not start "counting" them until 25 August 2012. There is no reason to think the system is set up wrong now. I highly doubt they haven't realised they need to count the sectors *after 24 August*.

I refer you back to the response I got from VA and this clause I have also see on thier website.

Eligible Sectors will be visible in your account from 25 August 2011, however Velocity will not use them as a part of the assessment method for upgrading or maintaining your membership level until 25 August 2012.

The way I read that is that from 25th August Eligible Sectors will be visible. They are not - so I have reason to believe it is set up incorrectly - because I have been told they are now showing (by multiple VA sources), because they do not show and because the statement on the website under my account informs me I need 8 more eligible sectors to maintain platinum which is incorrect. The message does not state I need 8 sectors (as in a general requirement) to renew it states I need an additional 8 sectors.

And the other reason I believe it is setup wrong is because my partner is also platinum and the sectors show correctly on her account which leads me to believe there may be some data issue.

Anyway the worst that will happen is an email to VA at the time to sort it out.

Actually they are visible, before 25 August there was no listing about eligible sectors there is now. You also seem to be failing to read the rest of your quote:

It says the eligible sectors will not be used, and they are not being used.

Go and look at post #13 you'll see with your own eyes a real life example of where eligible sectors ARE shown - 19 I believe. Look at that same post and you'll see a grab from my account that DOES NOT show how many eligible sectors I have flown it only shows that I still require 8 sectors despite the fact I have flow in excess of 8. I am not blind or stupid and I can read. Simply eligible sectors are not being displayed - they are not and that is all too painfully obvious.

Anyway this is pointless and I am not playing anymore.

It is pointless, you have no way to know what the story is until 25 August 2012, as I said eligible sectors are irrelevant until then.

As for post #13 as well as an eligible sectors count it also says that 8 sectors are required, which is the basis of your concern, so it is hardly an example of what should be happening with all accounts as it is still not correct. It is not a case of being stupid or unable to read. Simply put the system is not being implemented until 25 August 2012. I'm not sure why you keep trying to deny my point, perhaps you should stop playing your game.

The velocity website is a joke. (as is the Virgin website) What an embarrassment, it is completely littered with errors and dysfunctionality.

Virgin needs to get its house in order - this has been going on too long now.

darrend,

I think you are getting worked up over nothing.

If this does not display correctly after 25th Aug 2012 then it's time to worry. Until then, from where I'm sitting, there are more important things to worry about.

There's probably a few threads on this, but this was the first I found.

My eligible sector count seems to have started being correct!

I've notice mine is "ticking down" but it's certainly not correct when compared to flights since review date. There are some not counted for whatever reason ( just standard flights, not award bookings).

What do you mean by "ticking down"? My eligible sectors accrue (tick up). The part that says "eligible sectors required for platinum - 8", stays constant in my account.......just information it seems, not a countdown of the eligible sectors remaining to be flown.

Mine has changed to say 0 recently.
