I noticed I had 8 eligible sectors by 1st Dec '12 to maintain status and after 4 flights since then, OOL - SYD return and OOL - AKL return, I still have 8 eligible sectors required. Am I missing something ? SC's and points have posted already. The way this seems to be going is I will get to the review date and still have 8 sectors required.

The other observation is that we are now supposed to get a lounge entry for every 100 SC's and I have done about 400 SC's since this was implemented but have not had a single lounge entry appear. Despite having lounge access did have an occasion recently where I had a few family members with me whom I wanted to show the lounge and they were refused entry but I should have had entry passes to cover them.

Am I missing something or misunderstanding something maybe ?

If you are Platinum you don't need any 'lounge passes' for your guests, you can bring 3 in with you. As for eligible sectors, the Velocity website and T&C's are as clear as mud on this but I believe they are not applying this condition until August 2012. So currently irrelevant just there to confuse everyone.

While the overall wording is not the best the website does clearly say "Eligible sectors will only be a part of your membership assessment from August 2012." see footnote 2.

It is my understanding that the lounge passes are still a coming attraction. Having said that, I did hear that there was a trial group that received some of these passes, but not everyone did.

I still think the passes for Platinums are a terrible idea. What on earth am I supposed to do with them? I can already bring 3 guests in to the lounge; if I can't give them to a family member or something, they'll just sit in my account until they expire.

My eligible sectors are showing 0 too, even though sc and points have credited. Strange, because in the past these always automatically added

True, and I thought initially giving out passes to lounge members was pointless. But you may have the very odd occasion where they might be useful as I did. My wife and daughter are always covered of course, but I had a one off trip where my parents and brother were with me and we ended up sitting at the gate even though I thought I should have had some passes available. And if we get passes and they expire it doesn't matter one bit.

Ok thank you for pointing that out. I hope that doesn't mean it just remians at 8 regardless of flights until August and then I have to get all 8 within a couple of months.

I enquired about why my sectors were not showing and got the following - note that I have done over 8 eligible sectors and my accounts still shows 8 eligible sectors required - hence my enquiry to VA.

Response from VA ...

From 25 August 2012, in addition to achieving the required threshold of Status Credits in your review period, you will also be required to travel eligible sectors on a Virgin Australia Group of airlines operated flight. Currently, Eligible Sectors are not used to assess your Membership level.

Then each year, to maintain your membership you need to complete your eligible sectors along with your required Status Credits.

Eligible Sectors will be visible in your account from 25 August 2011, however Velocity will not use them as a part of the assessment method for upgrading or maintaining your membership level until 25 August 2012. An Eligible Sector is a flown journey from an origin to a destination on a Virgin Australia booking (DJ or VA Flight number).

You'll note clearly in their response that Eligible Sectors will be visible in your account from 25 August 2011. They may be visible but they are no way accurate.

I'm not sure I understand what your account displays and you being plat, may show something different to mine, but if it helps at all, my account shows 19 eligible sectors flown and 8 eligible sectors to upgrade to platinum. I read that required number simply as a statement of how many eligible sectors one needs to upgrade from gold to platinum (and for platinums to retain platinum perhaps), which is a fixed number does not count down as you achieve your sectors. For me, if DJ were using eligible sectors at the moment, I'd have already complied as I require 8 but have flown 19, it does not mean I require another 8........then it would just be the required SCs to obtain (which is somewhat harder for me to achieve :().

Is your account showing any eligible sectors flown?

Does not show any eligible sectors. All flights I have done for the status credits earned have been on VA so all sectors are eligible. I believe the number of required sectors should be 0 at this point as I have more than 8 sectors already.

OK, yours is different to mine so I can't help. I still think the 8 required is a fixed figure that won't count down, otherwise mine should also show 0, not 8. I'm thinking it just means I need 8 to upgrade (if I had 1000 Scs of course) and since I have 19, I'd be there if it counted yet (which it doesn't).

Akin to family pooled SCs, do family sectors count towards qualification or only individual?

I'd like to say I knew as I have had family pooled SCs, but I wasn't watching what happened to eligible sectors. I've gone back and tried to count, but nothing I count seems to add up to 19 sectors , so I'd say it's a very definite, maybe!

From what I can see with the pooling, transfers go across like this:

Points: yes
Sc's: yes
Eligible Sectors: no, and the "transferer" doesn't acquire them either!

The last one caught me out when planning to move a family member's status up. I thought at least someone should get them? The t&cs for pooling don't spell that out.

I'm pretty sure that there was a statement somewhere that sectors could not be pooled - they stay with the individual (but still looking for a reference)

Mine is the same and also do not really understand the terms and conditions. All my flights have been VA as well.

Given that the "Status Credits earned since" and "Additional Status Credits required" are shown and together sum to the 800 requisite credits I would think the line showing "Eligible sectors since" is missing.

I believe this is either an oversight on the part of the web designers or a bug. The wording "Additional sectors required" is clear enough - to me it means I must fly the specified number of sectors (in this case 8) over and above those I have already flown to requalify (in addition to status credits) - very clearly this is misleading information and should be rectified.
