Electronic authorisation required for EU travel from 2025

Departed CDG T2 yesterday. Banks of E-gates to one side unused. Manual processing.

I asked the agent what’s happened to EES and the electronic gates? She rolled her eyes had a bit of a giggle and said it a little exasperated tone. “Sometimes they use them in the morning. Sometimes they don’t. They really don’t know what to do with them.”

Which part of T2? I mean which letter?

The reason I am asking is because in my 10 passes through CDG this year the electronic gates seemed to be in use.
However I used the priority lanes so the processing was often manual anyway.
On at lest one occasion I passed through a designated E-Gate but then had to front an officer anyway.

I must admit I don't always remember these sorts of details.
Especially if I am with my parter and we are focusing on how to avoid being separated because of our different passports.

Out of interest, almost all of CDG is designated as part of T2 - the whole labyrinthine complex on either side of the multi-level motorway.
Even the sprawling extensions to 2E and the physically separate terminal building designated 2G.
(Somewhat counter-intuitively, 2F is more central, opposite the original 2E in the main Terminal 2 complex.)
Otherwise there is just:

1. the horrendous old circular T1, with the central space criss-crossed by transparent tubes containing a hybrid of travelators & escalators which must have seemed futuristic in the 1970s but now seem very strange), which is used by some airlines such as QR and also seems to be used as the backup when they renovate parts of T2 (for example some Oneworld airlines and Etihad used it while 2A & 2C were closed last year); and
2. the tiny new T3 (with separate buildings for departures and arrivals) which is used for some short haul intra-Schengen flights (operated by airlines other than AF such as IB).

Both of these are physically separate, off to the north, on the other side of a strip of hotels and other service buildings, and separately accessible by road.

Which part of T2? I mean which letter?

T2C- Oman air. If there was a priority business line then I would’ve been using it too.

I’ve used all three terminals at CDG in the past year. T3 was a charter to Greenland. As you say, Qatar uses T1 and I absolutely marvel at those inclined walkways and their plastic tubing and those very long rubber travelators, all the time while cursing the bloody place.

Well, 10 April is almost upon us, and chaos still reigns in Europe.

I'm so concerned about my booked arrangements for AMS-BRU-LHR (2 hours to enter AMS(terdam) and 2 hours to exit BRU, that I'm going to cancel all this and just book a reward ticket AMS-LHR on BA in J (all that's available),

That way I avoid the EES altogether, as there is airside non-Schengen to non-Schengen at AMS, not involving Immigration. What a s..t show!

just arrived in BRU from HKG - only EU/EEA/CH via EES, everyone else manually processed, including transfers (most EES kiosks closed/off) - almost 2h queue, bad enough that water and Biscoff biscuits were handed out:

@Pushka last year in Lisbon, even without EES took 1.5 hours to depart. Some unsolicited advice - get to the airport very early and if your airline check in only starts 2 hours before, be the first in line

Hmmm! Quite different to our experience at lisbon… flying TAP… departure to non-Schengen took only a few minutes! But that was fast track!

I wonder if the queues for EES are ever going to get better? Aside from UK citizens travelling back and forth, how many other tourists are going to be frequent travellers and able to bypass the initial registration on subsequent visits?

So left CPH bound for Singapore today. Now that they have split passport control in/out of Kastrup it works so much better if coming/going from outside Europe. (Gates D/E) Leaving was less than 60 seconds /smile for the camera / we already have your fingers and have a good flight.

The old passport control choke point was at least 50m in and out of CPH - gates ABC. Looks like hours will be needed!

Yes! But i was responding to I love to travel who was saying 1.5 hours without EES!

OT: I’ve only flown out of CPH once (QR to DOH-SYD pre Covid). The lounge was average so thought I’d go for a walk pre boarding. Once past outbound PP control (took seconds), discovered there was absolutely nothing in the departures area besides boarding gates and fortunately a loo!

To rub salt in the wound, QR didn’t serve bubbles as a PDB (apparently some wowser rule at CPH)…

If leaving via anything other than gates DE - it can be very slow. You will get the vibe when you see the Q’s. Wednesday 01.07.26 - at midday - a tradie apparantly hit something and flooded the airport so those passengers must have been in an extra world of pain!

Arrived mid June into Malaga along with about 10 early morning a320/737 arrivals from seemingly mostly UK and there was a long queue but was very efficient. Probably took about 20mins for the few hundred people in front of me to process.

I did nervously watch the hoards unload from seemingly endless arriving planes as my travel party decided they needed to use the facilities. But turned out no drama.

Perhaps some airports are not as well prepared. They had about 10 kiosks which seems about right for that sized airport.
