Hi all,

Looking to book an award seat on EK 421 PER-DXB in business or first for the end of this year. I have searched dates from July 2015 onwards and every date i pick only shows economy seats available on EK421 whilst the other two flights that depart the same day always have availability in business and first.

Do you think QF has forgotten to put the award seats into their booking engine? Or is it something to do with EK? I know they recently announced EK421 would become an A380, hence the reason i want to book onto that flight.

Its also the same for the return flight EK420. Cant find a single seat in business or first as an award.....

Should i call QF and see if they have any seats showing in their system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers gogo

I looked my self a few weeks ago (WP1 status, no availability for me either) Could only see whY available on everyday i looked! I'de say its a premium flight for high paying pax, & they are not willing to put any award seats on for J or F on EK420/421. If you wanna fly that flight number on award I'm afraid you'll have to do it in whY.

Calling qantas can't hurt & see if they have anything, i know for a fact that they can't "release" any award seats on EK, they can only release on QF operated services.

Sorry I had just posted that I see heaps of avail, but of course didn't realise they have like 3 flights (wow).. so yeah that 420/421 are clearly popular. I'd also say it is EK not releasing the seats rather than QF blocking them.

a phone call can't hurt of course

Good to know you can't see any either. But i don't think it looks promising... My exact dates aren't available just yet.. So see what happens. I did look at expert flyer a while back and couldn't seem to see any award seats on their system either.. :(

Will fly one of the other flights if nothing becomes available on 421/420. And just get the A380 DXB-CDG

I have alerts set on EF if any award seats in J or F come available on either 420/421, for multiple dates, will keep you posted if anything comes up.

Im seriously thinking about booking whY for the first flight outa perth on the A380, just gotta see what my work load is like, but really really want to travel in J or F that flight!

Be careful if you are booking a business seat onwards from DXB to somewhere else. The QF system normally charges you business or first points even if you have a segment in economy... ;)

Definitely will go on one of the other flights instead. I think most of the 77W's and 77L's??? have been updated to same as a380 now?? (or should be by the time i plan to fly at the end of 2015?

Yes, but I do find the QF site does make it reasonably clear with the little "!"'s next to the seat icon which say something fun like "Your seat from London to Sydney will be in Economy" (yeah.. no !). I do agree it can be misleading to say there's a seat when it may just be a small tag or som4ething, but that's a whole other issue.

I tried booking EK in F for June 2014 back in sept 2013 and there wasn't any availability on EK421 around that time. In the end I had to book the earlier flight and have a 10 hour stopover.

However as luck had it, EK cancelled the earlier flights due to the runway works and they put me on EK421

I think you will find that this flight never has F or J award availability, YMMV.

I have been looking at EK F awards (JFK-DXB, DXB-BKK or HKG) and I find they usually release 2F (Z) at T-6months, anytime longer than that and its 1F. With D award seats though, there's usually more than 2, I've seen 7 or 9 from time to time.

Thanks for the heads up about 2 seats @ 6 months.. Do you know if the original 1 seat has been booked at more than 6 months out do they release 2 new seats at 6 months? Or just an additional 1? If the first has been booked.

Business seats I'm not too worried about as i can find 7 in D. Trying to figure out best way to get 5 people to Europe. Spread over business and first if possible... Think we will just all book into D and if 2 seats become available in Z closer to the date then change the booking and take the two seats.. :)

Me too! My emails went crazy this morning with alerts.. :)

just booked 5 of us in J for end of year.

so glad they came online.

Now to cross fingers and hope that no one books the two seats in Z on my flights before we can pool enough points to upgrade two people.. :)
