Didn’t actually notice the bar in the 777 - was too busy drinking in my suite :). I know what you mean that little bar in the A380 near the showers was well stocked, but we don’t drink a lot, so what we get with meals was more than enough. I had an FA on the 777, who seemed to feel her mission in life was to keep filling my glass with champagne even when I said no :)

Well that does all sound promising. Thank you for that

There is another flight on an A380, I'm still trying to convince that 5 flights isn't enough over 3 weeks. I think we can bump it up to 6 flights to hey on the A380. I'll keep trying to persuade the better half.

After spending two hours on the phone to Qantas I've managed to change one of the three flights to an A380 so at least I get to experience it again.

Just gotta wait for it to be ticketed. I'll call again in the morning if it hasn't been ticketed.

Coming home from SIN a couple of years ago with EK there was just myself and Mrs Scash in F. It seemed every time I turned around my glass magically became full. I had to put my hand over the glass a couple of times to stop them refilling. They just about had to pour me off the plane!

EK has confirmed that ADL will be getting the refurbed 777-200LR aircraft with the 2-2-2 J seating.
does that have the new F? I thought they were the -300, although I am very bad with all the different types :)

In the past couple of months I booked 2 QFF award J seats on 3 EK flights from SYD - BKK - DXB, DXB - BCL and back from DXB - SYD for July & August 2019. All 3 were on A380's which I was very happy with. The bar is handy when you cant sleep!

In the last week I have learned that 2 of the 3 are now on 777's. The exception being DXB - BCL.
I have heard nothing from QF or EK about the changes.

I'm not really upset because we are still in J and that's always better than Y.

I would like to know if we are in the new J configuration of 2-2-2 or the old 2-3-2 or if we are in a new 777? Saw a video on YouTube (Dennisbunnick Travels) where a guy travels from ADL - DXB on EK J which was very informative. He was in a new plane with the old configuration and right at the end he quotes from the EK website which says 10 of the new 777's are being fitted out in the 2-2-2 seating.

So how will I know if we'll be on a new 777 and what the seating layout will be? I have checked seatguru (still showing A380) and the EK site and it looks like the old seating there.

My new flight has just been ticketed so I'm pretty happy with that.

Ek first B777 Perth to Dubai
Ek first A380 Dubai to Singapore
Cx A330 business Hong Kong to Singapore
Ek first B777 Singapore to Melbourne

So I get to experience a little bit of everything.
Just gotta hope for no more changes from here onwards.

Not sure how much truth there is to this, but the new 777s are supposedly too heavy to operate the ultra long haul routes like SYD, so the routes might always remain as the older product.

Hope that's not right. We were changed from the A380 to 777 from DXB to SYD next August. Direct flight.

One thing I loved on the A380 was the self serve bar inbetween the two showers. What's the self serve bar like in the B777 planes?

The A380 bar didn't phase either of us too much so we're not going to miss that. I'm going to miss the showers but that's more of a novelty than anything else.

So I'm hoping the bar is stocked as well on the B777 compared to the A380.
just flown a 777-300 from NBO to DXB. Had a look - the galley area near the toilets is set up with snacks - chips, chocolates, some fruit. Then there was a shelf with some glasses and what looked like nice bottles of cognac or something like that. Sorry not great with alcohol.

Once again my FA was very keen to keep me drinking and only stopped when I said I still had a long way to go (flying onto Mel), so needed to pace myself.

Brilliant, thanks for that. Sounds like it's very similar if not the same in both aircraft. That's good to hear.

Thanks for letting me know.

From memory there is a good selection of drinks but not a lot of room as staff use the area as a passageway.

Thanks for that. I've noticed some flight attendants are better than others when it comes to opening unopened bottles of alcohol.

One really nice guy from Perth to Dubai encouraged me to open and try 3 different scotches and 2 cognacs.

Between Dubai and Singapore the flight attendant asked what I was doing and then had me wait while she checked the bar for an open cognac that I wanted to drink.

i had a good look at the A380 area (just landed in Melbourne) and there seemed more than on the 777, but I just don’t see it as an issue - they seemed very keen on both planes to keep bringing you whatever you wanted. I had a very strange dinner on the second leg - canapés, caviar and a meat pie - none of the dinner mains appealed to me and the meat pie did :)

How was the meat pie?

I thought about it last time but didn't end up trying it. I'm thinking I might next time as a snack.

It was really nice - very meaty and a nice pastry. We have had so much “fine dining” over the last month, that a plain old pie sounded attractive and it was.

Just received notification that our SYD - DXB EK flight has now changed to the (original) A380 from the 777 in early July. I'm pretty happy about that as I prefer the J seats in the A380. It's 2 hours later departing but I can live with that as there is no stopover in BKK which means we arrive earlier than the original flight. I saw there was a 777 leaving earlier the same day from SYD so I think I got lucky.

I've had both of my upcoming Qantas Reward booked a380 Emirates flights (First HK to Dubai and Business Dubai to Rome) downgraded to a 777 - pretty disappointed since we specifically sought out the a380 experience for our honeymoon and received absolutely no notification about this aircraft change.

Has anyone had any luck recently getting any compassion from Qantas in regards to changing to a different Emirates flight on the same day? Emirates didn't want a thing to with it when I contacted them. Unfortunately I'm a lowly Bronze and as mentioned it was booked as a Reward flight so don't like my chances....

.....and I’m afraid I don’t like your chances either, unless you can rebook to another EK award flight that day and cough up the 12000 point fee. I fear even the “ it’s our honeymoon “ story won’t persuade them. QF won’t guarantee their own aircraft equipment used, let alone another airlines. But no harm in trying.
