EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

Re: EK upgrade love

So far I have flown 3 EK legs as a (QF) WP. No op-ups, however a personal welcome from the CSM each flight.

Mind you, when I pay for Y, I expect to fly Y - anything else is a bonus.

I have never had a CSM welcome on EK in Y, although in the couple of times I have done Y, I have had good service.

Re: EK upgrade love

I'm now 5 upgrades from 14 flights (all Y-J). CSM greeting probably 50%.

I'm enjoying the partnership :)

On one flight the FA who was near my seat assisting and directing boarding pax saw me sit down and came over and said "Welcome back Ms Tam". Impressed that she had taken the time to remember where a WP was sitting in order to offer that.

I'm QF NB, haven't flown a QF, EK or OW sector in almost 5 months and I got a greeting and welcome back from the CSM on Monday's AKL-MEL flight. I noticed it only had my QFF # on the boarding pass, no status. Bulkhead seats were preselected for me as well.

Had an onboard upgrade for 3 of us from Y to J, when my mum's entertainment system wasn't working DXB-DEL. Funny thing is mum will go 80% of flights without even turning it on. Needless to say, I now make sure she attempts to turn it on every flight.

Mum and brother also had an Y-J op-up DXB-BLR, they were both EK silver at the time. We have special dietary requirements and it was all onboard, so must have been processed well in advance. Just to rub salt into the wound for me, I flew a later SQ flight MEL-xSIN-BLR to meet them and I had no meals onboard and was stuck between two people that could have both done with a shadow.

Good for you (and them).

I know that EK (and EY to some extent) are more than happy to overbook cabins and op-up passengers, but I am yet to receive the love... I have bad luck with op-ups in general. Either I am on flights with open seats, or just not important / lucky enough to get the bump.

OT:

In hindsight crediting my EY flights credit to Virgin Australia Velocity (Platinum), rather than a status matched EY Gold probably cost me a J to F op-up on a 14 hour A346 flight late last year as there appears to be zero recognition of VA status levels in EY's systems.

The flight had 5 sold F seats when I checked in, and I was offered a cash upgrade which I tried to bargain down, but they said no... In the end the F and J cabins both went out full - 12 pax in F, with many of those boarding passes on the gate agent's desk at the gate when I boarded (EY Gold and Silver pax at a quick glance).

I have to agree with you on the small sample of flights I had, certainly would not have got my EY opup if by VA number was in the system in Singapore VS EY gold.

You tell me this now!!!!

Wish I had known ~6 months ago :p

Mind you, knowing that VA's own systems don't talk to each other, I don't know why I would assume they talk to other airlines...

Re: EK upgrade love

My partner was upgraded from J to F on her recent KUL-MEL (she's QFF WP) on EK. Not bad considering she bought Y seats and upgraded to J with points that were about to expire :)

Was not aware you could do this? Thought it had to be QF metal for upgrades.

Re: EK upgrade love

Received the EK love last night on my return flight KUL > MEL.

Was issued a new boarding pass at the Departure Gate in KUL.

The smile on my face once issued that new boarding pass was similar to that of a Cheshire Cat .

Had a good old chin wag to the Emirates Purser ( CSM ) who told me that every seat was taken onboard, so I managed an op- upgrade.

Great service in business class, would not hesitate in travelling with a EK again on a QF ticket .... No doubt as to the reasons why! Lol

As predicted ;)

Re: EK upgrade love

So I took my first ever EK flight today (although bought under a QF flight number)
SYD-BKK-DXB
From SYD-BKK was an absolutely packed flight. As soon as we landed in BKK (1.5 hr stopover without changing planes) a lady came on, checked everyone's boarding passes. She came back 10 mins later and gave me a new boarding pass for J.
Very pleased, especially seeing as I bought a "red e-deal" ticket. Never had an OPUP with Qantas (I'm QFF Gold), but got one on my first flight here.

Re: EK upgrade love

I've had no joy with any EK upgrades, however have a stack of flights coming up this year, so fingers crossed. A few flights in F would be sweet ;)

Re: EK upgrade love

So with 5 EK flights coming up for Mrs Lime & self, no doubt will go from J to EK 1st upgrade love at some point :)

The EK love strikes again by the looks of things! They certainly do seem to like us with QFF Status!

No doubt your thoughts of EK are as strong as mine as a result of such love! ( not expected , but very much gratefully appreciated).
