Got the formal notification of upgrade to EK Plat a few days ago via email and today received an invite to the gala dinner on 1 April at Atlantis on the Palm in Dubai to celebrate the start of the new alliance. Was just wondering if any other AFF's got the invite and were planning on attending? Could make for an impromptu AFF gathering.

Is that the dinner with Neil Perry?

if so. Yes I've been invited and am attending.

Not sure, the details are the Asateer tent, Atlantis, the Palm on Monday 01 April at 6:30pm. Is that the same one you are going to?

Double checked my itinerary.

Yes to the dinner on 1st.

Another dinner on 2nd which is the Neil Perry dinner.

The one on the 2nd must be a QF function only, perhaps for those that are making the effort to fly across for the one on the 1st.

Possibly. I have been invited as a guest of Qantas on the inaugural QF1 flight to DXB on 31st March. There are a number of activities whilst we are there.

Seems like QF are making a bigger deal of this than EK for their top tier FF's. Will be interesting to see if anything else comes up. At this stage I will be flying with EK again on 2 April so will be keen to see if there is any noticeable difference in treatment for EK plat being 2 days into the new tier. I found the level of service for Gold's fluctuates from great to non-existent depending on the cabin crew so hoping for a bit more consistency (on the great side, not the non-existent side) with platinum tier.

I was advised that I'm IO with EK now so I think that will be good.

Ha ha. I think I just need to meet someone unemployed who loves travelling. What's with all this career nonsense +1 talks about, that forces me to fly alone.

I dont think you will have a shortage of volunteers here :)

I'm quite happily engaged to a beautiful fiancé but I think I'd happily bat for the other team for a shot at your level of flying!

(No offence intended to anyone in that remark)

Received this earlier today, a little surprised no-one else has mentioned it yet:

My wife who is Skywards Gold received an invite from Emirates. We won't be going though as we aren't flying through Dubai until August and don't see the point of flying there just for a free meal lol.
