Guys,

I'm in the process of booking an EK flight from Australia to Copenhagen and was pleasantly surprised to discover that when I book two people on the flight I get a substantial discount for the second person.

Is this fairly common practice for flights to Europe? I have rarely seen it before, except when it is heavily promoted (eg Biz Class passengers sometimes get offered a heavily discounted ticket for a family member). Similarly, I haven't seen it for Australia / Asia flights.

After a little experimenting, I find there are similar discounts being offered for flights to Copenhagen when using the SQ and QF booking websites.

Does anyone know where to find out the airline policies on "couple" discounts, eg routes and validity periods?

Qantas currently have a companion sale on when you purchase "2 or more" fares, the discount kicks in. I can't comment on the other airlines but it's likely that they all have a similar dealsin the name of competition.

Part of the fare conditions state:

Note: If this fare is booked as part of the Europe Companion Sale, the fare is non-refundable, 2 or more passengers must be booked and travel together. Child discounts do not apply.
