Hi All - Flying OW in J through DXB. Arriving on CX about 6 in the morning and leave 2am the next morning on QF.

I have two queries with regards to lounges.

The wife and I plan to leave the airport to go have a looksie for most of the day, however a shower and breakfast before we go would be ideal. I assume because I'm in transit I can visit the EK departure lounge(s) straight away (or is there an arrivals lounge)

Secondly - it appears from the photos as though the EK J lounge has a "quiet room" which is full of lay down lounges. These look ideal for a few hours nap after a long day (and before boarding). Can anyone confirm if this is the case.

Lastly - is there anywhere to leave hand luggage airside?

Cheers

BR

First, as long as you have a boarding pass for the onward QF flight you should be able to use the EK departure lounge straight away.
There are certainly showers available there and buffet breakfast.
Second, the J "lounge" is in fact several lounges, each extending over an entire floor of a gate concourse.
All the various amenities including quiet areas are distributed around each lounge. So you should be able to find a choice of places to have a nap.
Third, as far as I know there is no arrivals lounge, but I believe this would be irrelevant in any event, as your arrival on CX would not qualify you to use it.
EK has a partnership with QF but it is not a OW airline and the partnership benefits don't extend to other OW carriers.
Finally, if you are arriving on a CX flight and leaving with QF, you will be arriving and departing from different terminals.
CX use Terminal 1 and QF (and EK) use Terminal 3. The "C" gate councourse is directly attached to Terminal 1 and "A" and "B" are attached to Terminal 3.
You can move between A B and C councourses, through kilometres of duty free shopping areas, but I think that is airside only.
I am not sure if there is an EK lounge in the "C" concourse.
I am also unsure what implications this will have for you as I have only ever transited Dubai on QF, EK or a combination of the two.

Firstly can I say thank you for such a great reply.

I got a little confused in my initial post. Given I am flying J out of DXB with Qantas - i mixed both EK and OW together - as I should (but may not) qualify for both.

Given what you said - it might simply be easiest to take the stroll across to Terminal 3 and shower/breakfast in EK lounge (given I qualify under QF). I assume there is no issue coming and going from the lounge.

Wondering whether there will be any issue clearing immigration for terminal 3 when I have landed at terminal 1. Or issues visiting the city given I am in transit.

There are EK lounges all throughout DXB, and as you are flying J on QF you are entitled to access any of their J lounges - you shouldn't have to go to T3 specifically.

Thanks - for the life of me I've google emirates lounges terminal 1 - but it keeps trying to shuttle me off to terminal 3

Have I got it right.

C Gates refers to Terminal 1. B Gates refer to Terminal 3 and A gates are also off from terminal 3 - though they seem a walk.

The concourse A-D are just levels? ie Concourse a is ground floor?

I think the "concourse" thing is just another way of saying A/B/C gates.

You can walk between C and B gates (it's a long walk!) but to get to the A gates (the 380 ones) you have to take the train.

Yes when I say concourse I mean the buildings which contain each of all the A, B and C gates respectively.
Those buildings contain all the lounges, shops and other facilities airside.
In another airport they might be different terminals.
But in DXB you have the terminals ground side which feed into the gate concourses airside.
Just to make it more confusing!
As far as I recall you can access any of the A, B or C concourses regardless of which terminal you use to go airside.
