Economy X - row 5 B737.

I travelled last weekend from Mel to Hba on a 737-8 and paid for Economy X and was seated in row 5. However row 5 seats did not have the "Economy X" signage on the head rests, did not have the dedicated overhead storage and had less leg room than rows 3 and 4. In other words they seemed to be standard economy seats and not economy X. Does anyone know if this is common on the 737's? (I'm new to Virgin, having been a QFF forever ...)
 
Row 5 has become a regular economy row and no longer Economy X in the refurbished 737s. Unfortunately it sounds like this has happened on your flight...

It seems like this (and the removal of the perplex divider between J and Y) is how VA is squeezing an extra row into the refurbished aircraft (31 rows instead of 30 rows).

Also to give all 737-800 and 737-700's a standard config instead of multiple configs.

It is likely an aircraft substitution occurred. You are entitled to a full refund.

thanks the reply. I have lodged a complaint (Virgin said that was the only way to get a refund) and now have to wait for that to be 'processed' - I'll let you know how I get on. Do you think this will be more common? I have another flight on Wednesday in row 5 (purchased as Economy X) - now I'm worried.

You are correct. The removal of the divider and converting row 5 from Yx to standard Y is how aircrafts are going from 30 rows to 31 rows.

Older aircrafts will go from 29 rows to 31 rows.
 
So are we saying that all this talk about new dividers and installation is simply never happening? Well done VA in now removing more recognition of a Biz cabin permanently then!! Limited lounges, no dividers, IFE that often fails unless downloaded and they still want more than 2K one way between Perth and MEL and more for SYD.

The sky divider is happening next year

So refunding something they shouldn't have been selling because it didn't exist?
 
Same thing almost happened to me yesterday. As a plat selected row 5 at time of booking indicated Yx. Before boarding noticed that there was a full side free in row 4 and the map had changed with 5 no longer being Yx (ended up having people next to me but grateful for the actual extra legroom on a 3 hour flight).

New interiors are ok, seats more confortable in Y IMO, but the lack of separation between Y and J was obvious with plenty of both attempted and succesful bathroom traffic from economy.

This annoys me. If I have to fork out many dollars to sit in biz I would expect that CC would ensure that biz pax only have access. In the scheme of things, unless monitored the divider would not make much different I suppose but call me old school....get these dividers up and monitor throughout. I assume CC do realise that some of the biz costs are rather expensive. I really don't fancy the aisle being treated as a free for all from row 2 forward.
