Hey Guys,

I'm kinda' new here.

Thought I would contribute a little with my first go.

I was thinking that you don't offer many tips regarding travel sense and the essentials that an expert traveler should carry with them.

I've found that stains really kill me - b/c I only carry a certain number of shirts for each trip and dry cleaners at hotels are sooo expensive.

For stain removal tips I always carry a small vile of baking soda, another one of vinegar, and a last one of methylated spirits (a must for removing biro pen stains)

If any of you have other essentials you always carry, feel free to post here.

Hi,

Some good tips but you need to source metho locally if you need it, its a prohibited item for carry on or checked baggage and you may face a rather nasty fine that could add a few stains to your pants ;)

Haha, that's a good point.

I always stuck it in my suitcase (not carry on) and didn't have a problem - but maybe I was lucky

Well, as I've read in some article, in typical cases you will be able to remove the stains from clothing by the means of cold water, salt or alcohol. In case of chewing gum stain you would also need ice. All the ingredients are quite common, so it doesn't make much sense to bring something special with you. ;)
And one more point: as a rule, the quicker you remove stain the better.

Welcome to AFF Traveler! Being AFF I dare say most people would have alcohol on board to help remove that stain! :D

What about in regards to washing things in the sink, like underwear etc. What do people here commonly use? The provided shampoo? A bar of soap?

Soap isn't good as it tends to require way too much rinsing to get out.

There are travel sized washing liquid bottles on sale at various places. Or pour some OMO or similar into a <100ml bottle and store it with your baggie. You really don't need much for a sink sized wash, so don't overuse it.

On a shirt grease from a drip of gravy disappears with that green washing up detergent named Palmolive. It works a treat.

Thanks Flashware! That was exactly my initial thought, people just shouldn't overdo it with the alcohol :D

Somehow I thinks vodka may be a better option than a bottle of Bundy

I have always believed that vodka improves everything. Now you can wash with it!

Flashware, I use the shampoo. I wouldn't use it on my hair!

IMHO Johnson's Baby Wipes remove almost anything. Also great for cleaning canvas wallets, shoes.

I always carry a Dynamo Stain Pen. They seem to work well and handy to just keep in the carry-on.

Alcohol is a good remover of stains, and as soon as you brush it off, it quickly dries at the same time. :)

I have used these and good but even better is Resolve Stain Stick we found in the USA.Gets the stains out of QF PJs better than anything.
not a liquid, weighs less than 100gm so easily carried in hand luggage.

I use the Tide To Go stain remover pen. It's handy and it makes stains vanish.

They are available everywhere in the US and you could probably pick one up on ebay too.
