Hi

I paid a bill by Bpay charged to my Earth Platnium mastercard and I was not allocated any QFF points.
The Biller only gave the option to pay by Bpay via chq, savings, visa or mastercard.

I was expecting 1/2 point per dollar spend. (bill was for $3000.00 so was looking forward to 1500 pts)

I thought anything billed to my mastercard would be given points.
Is it correct that bills paid by bpay charged to the card are exempt.

thanks

It would appear that they do not:

15.4 When don’t you earn Points?
(a) Points are not earned in respect of the following
amounts that may be charged to the Card Account:
n
government charges (other than GST payable in
connection with the purchase of goods or
services on which you earn Points);

n
interest and other Bank fees and charges
(including any GST payable on any of these);

n
Cash Advances;

n
any spend deemed by Westpac to be for
business purposes, which includes, but is not
limited to, transactions that relate to the
conduct of a business, use of your Card to
make purchases that are business-related
(including any expenditure of a personal
business nature) or use of your Card to
purchase goods or services that are not used
wholly or predominantly for personal, domestic
or household purposes;

n
balance transfers;

n
BPAY payments; i.e. bill payments and other
payments made through the BPAY Electronic

Payments Scheme.

thanks Oz_mark that information.
I'll know for next time.

A question in another thread (Earth Platnium...What the...Points don't add up) asked the same question as me re bpay's not receiving points, so I did a copy and paste of your reply to me into that thread. Hope that is Ok, with credit given to yourself of course. :)

Most credit cards in Australia give points for BPAY payments, so this is a BIG limitation of the Earth Platinum mastercard and I am glad I found this out before getting one.

On BPay....

I am wondering if this means direct through the Westpac site that points are not given??

As a test I put a small payment though on BPay on the suppliers website (ie not paid through my Westpac Bank access/portal)...and bonus points have come from Earth :)

Do they? Which ones? Because my NAB and ANZ visas exclude Bpay as does my AMEX amex.

I've also seen a restriction on points for paying at Oz Post.

My ANZ QFF account definitely accrues points when making BPAY payments via the ANZ website. These are of course normal payments - not the BPAY it as a cash advance type ones.

A friend of mine also recently found out that BPAY using Earth (via Westpac Internet banking) didn't accrue points, They ended up complaining (even though it was in the T&C) and they actually credited the points for this instance only.

Welcome to AFF Kebaba :D

My ANZ account generally does as well. More to the point, some bpay payments will be treated as a cash advance (no points) and a warning flashes up to this effect when attempting to do so on line - in which case one may back out.

Both Citibank and Commonwealth bank give points for payments made using BPAY from your credit card (note: not all billers support credit card payments).

Kebaba & serfty have both confirmed that ANZ provides points.

I don't use my NAB card much but believe they do from distant memory.

Amex don't offer the facility to make BPAY payments as the BPAY scheme is a scheme between the banks and credit unions.

Ok, I might have been speaking out my back side. (thought I checked this out pretty closely only 2 days ago, in relation to a EFT, they must have changed conditions :oops: )

But I note that ANZ doesn't give points for Cash equivalent transactions, which as noted sometimes includes Bpay

NAB say:

cash advances (which include bills paid over

the counter at
our branches, financial institutions
or a post office

But not BPay :oops:

AMEX will maybe it's not called Bpay, but there is an option to pay a bill online - not that I've used it. Couldn't be bovvered looking for Amex T&C at this hour of the night.

Are you referring to the "Pay bill online" link on the Australian Amex website ? If so, that is only for paying your Amex bill from a nominated Australian bank account. From the FAQ at https://www.americanexpress.com/australia/personal/cards/onlinesvcs/paybillsonline_faq_popup.shtml ...

Q. Can I pay bills for other suppliers through Pay Bill Online?
Pay Bill Online allows you to pay your American Express Card bill only.
Richard.

I pay some BPay bills using Amex..

ie this is from one of them. It is only for BPay...and note the Amex logo.

Enter your BPay Reference Number and click on Next

I was referring to the link "bill payment" under most used account services on the right hand side of the page.

But when following that through it ends up in "pay bill online" So different link but same thing.
