Earth Platinum - superior points earning with privileges?

Hi all,
As you might know already, Qantas FF has made changes to its credit card partners, such as westpac altitude platinum. Where redeeming points to Qantas FF is being slashed.
Instead new credit card program is in offer by westpac which is called Earth Platinum. Where points will be directly converted to Qantas FF account only. These are the offers:

  • 20,000 extra Qantas Frequent Flyer points when you use your new Earth Platinum cards for 3 or more purchases by 31 Mar 09
  • Earn 3 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases
  • using your Earth Platinum American Express® Card until 31 Mar 09 (1.5 points thereafter)
  • Earn 0.5 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases using your Earth Platinum MasterCard®
  • For a limited time free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership (if you're not already a member)
  • 50% off the annual fee on Earth Platinum for the 1st year - pay $125
I would like to find, what would be your recommendation on:

- Is it worth to get the Earth Platinum? If apparoval is not a problem, then
I will be using both cards, paying two annual fees and other usual
headaces)

Or,

- Should I just drop the Altitude card and pick up the Earth?
( Considering I will loss options of redeeming points to Malaysia airlines,
singapore airline, virgin blue ...)

Two more things:
Qantas FF requires one of the highest redemption of points. Eg: comparing to malaysia airlines.
It is much more difficult to get an award seat or upgrade on Qantas than many other airlines.

Will appreciate your advices and recommendations.

Thank you.

Re: Earth Platinum - superior points earning with privileges?

It sounds decent. Personally I'm cancelling my plat card because I only use the points for QF.

Cheers,

EARTH Platinum - 20K Bonus QFF points

Not sure if this has been discussed here:

Earth Platinum with a earn rate of 3 QFF point per $ until March 2009.

20,000 extra QFF points after 3 Purchases.

50% reduction in fees for the first year ($125) - who wants this card anyways after first year.

Re: EARTH Platinum - 20K Bonus QFF points

Yeah, there's a thread somewhere around here. I signed up last night - approved instantly with a stupid credit limit that I don't want. Wonder how easy it'll be to reduce it when I go to pick up the card?

Between this and the AMEX 5000 MR point promo, I can't see my QF AMEX card getting much use between now and March 2009. ;)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Just received the 20.000 points for signing up with Earth Plat.
Will keep the card till the end of the promotion 1$=3p and maybe cancel it after, as I still have an Earth + (now gold) on the old cheaper fee of 79$.
Depends on, how long it will stay on this fee. Westpac told me first, it should be with the next billing term, which they later denied, then it would be with issuing any new replacement card ("gold" instead of "+") when the old one runs out.
Anyone being sent a gold replacement card could tell me on which annual fee, 79$ or 125$ they charge for it?
It would make sense to keep the Plat. for the first year as it includes a car rental insurance within Australia.
