Been to some websites and got the banner of Earth's new credit card, Earth Platinum.

  • Introductory 20000 points if you use the card 3 times before promotion period, which is 31/3/2009
  • Very attractive $1 = 3 points on AMEX (until promotion period, then $1 = 1.5points after
  • Card fee is $125 for first year, then $250 afterwards.
I previously own an Earth basic card, got waived the annual fee for the second year after I attempt to cancel the card, and they also upgraded me to Earth Plus, I guess they're keen to keep customers. So does the Platinums!!!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Haven't heard of this one, thanks!

$3points/$ for the next 6 months and 20,000pts bonus...not bad! Pity they're not AMEX MR points! :D

For $125 for the first year, I might consider this one (when the MR->SPG conversion goes back to 0.3, I think I'll go back to earning QFF points). Will need to check if I can apply though (I had a regular Earth which I dumped earlier this year).

Cheers,
- Febs.

Thanks...

This will I think replace my Citibank VISA spend for those expenses I cannot use my Amex on.

((Edit: As pointed out, after I wrote the above, by Oz-mark I was misreading the offer....so I will be spening on the Citibank still)

But the Mastercard attached to Earth gives 0.5 FF point per dollar? So why would you change

(Not the we know what will happen to Citibank transfers to QF long term)

On the Earth platinum page:

earth website said:
Earning Qantas Frequent Flyer points on Earth Platinum

  • To accelerate your points earning, your Earth Platinum American Express Card earns 3 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases until 31 Mar 09 (1.5 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 thereafter)
  • For added convenience, your Earth Platinum MasterCard® Card earns 0.5 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases, and gives you the convenience of acceptance at over 27 million locations worldwide

On the Earth platinum page:

Ah:oops::oops:...yes sorry you are right...I had misread it as the MC...it is the Amex.

However there is still a three month window of 3 QFF points to Amex (ie an using the current No Limit Promotion Bonus as first preference)...Compared to 1.5 with MR....which at double might still be good for increasing the points I have in QFF already to a more useful Award.

I had a good last night at
Earth Plat V Earth Gold V Altitude Plat V Altitude Gold and without any info on the yeild on Altitude points it seems to me Earth Plat (using Amex) is the best

Note I just got an Amex Gold Choices and will probably cancel that (will ring) unless they wack me in one of the bonus reward schemes mentioned in other threads.

Earth Gold is offering I think a 10,000 point bonus and 1.5:1 until Mar 31

20k or even 10k points plus an accelerator is pretty handy especially since I may fly MEL-LA March next year

I have the Earth + (=gold) as for the travel insurance at the moment. Annual fee 79$. Called Earth, Westpac , they said it will go up after the first year to the 125$ as they charge for the new gold.
Think I might apply for the Platinum (as it's the same fee as the gold , 1st year), get the 20.000 points and 3pts offer and then reverse after the first year back to the gold.
Anyone with Earth+? Does the annual fee really go up?

While Earth+ holders have received notifications of changes to interest free days, foreign exchange fees, cash advance fees, and interest rates in the lat few months, I don't believe there has been an advise of a change to the annual fees.

Just keep in mind in regards to the 20,000 points don't apply for switching from an existing Westpac card - see point 2 under Things You Should Know listed on Earth Credit Card from Westpac

Your extra Qantas Frequent Flyer points will usually be allocated to your valid Qantas Frequent Flyer membership within 6 weeks. Product switches from existing Westpac cards are excluded from earning extra points.

So with 3 points per dollar plus the 1 point bonus for QF spend;

Selected Qantas products and services are Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number) booked directly with Qantas, Qantas Club and Qantas Frequent Flyer membership, purchases from Qantas Holidays, purchases from 'Qantas Travel' customer shopfronts and purchases on Hotels on qantas.com - Excludes Jetstar flights and services.

That would be 4 points per $ for any QF spend as defined above.

Thanks to the OP for posting this gem.

I have now registered for the Earth Platinum and eagerly await notification of card pickup at my local branch! 20K points and 3:1 for the next 6 months is too hard an offer to refuse. I may be purchasing two DONE4's via Qantas before March 31st so that would yield me about 80,000 points (2 x $10K at 4:1). The $125 Earth fee is also extremely attractive although I plan to cancel the card before the first year is up.

Coincidentally, I have an Amex Ultimate which I am getting for free, as well the 40K points via 'Myrewards' promo. I will just ensure that I make 10 transactions per month up until December 31st with my Ultimate for the promo, and then put everything through Earth up until Mar 31st, and then revert everything back to Ultimate thereafter.

Cheers, GM.

GM I reckon if you put some reasonable business through your Earth Plat and then threaten to cancel they'll leave the A/F at 125 or even waive it. I plan on doing the same thing....so I can run 20k points on, plus any spend (I am going to Japan for NYE so will probably put 15,000 points on there @ 3:1) then more overseas before March. Quite lucrative!

The Earth Plat will get about $3-5K/month spend, but even if they offered it to me for free I would still decline since my Amex Ultimate is already free, and it includes a free domestic return flight - which the Earth card does not.

I've got an Earth+, now Earth Gold, credit card which i got back in February of this year. Was told i'd receive 10,000 free QFF points for joining which would be credited within 12 weeks of April 25th, am i'm still waiting for them. Earth keeps passing the buck between their rewards division and their card services division. 5,000 of the points have been credited but i'm still waiting for the other 5,000. This is 8 weeks after the 12 weeks which it should have been applied in. They refunded my annual fee for me, the $79 fee, but never mentioned that its now $125. The fee went up in July to $125, so its not just because the card is now "Gold". I'm keeping the card though, they've stuffed me around but i've i'm a patient person and don't get upset for something as trivial as this. Future Earth customers, if you don't have your points one day after the cutoff of the maximum creditation period, call them...hastle them...their your points and make sure they give them to you then and there.

I am not sure that existing cardholders have been moved to the new fee yet. They may still be on the $79 fee for the moment.
