Earning points when paying government dept. & associated gov. utilities

I know this question has probably been asked before. butI haven't seen the answer.

it appears that the points earn on spend is getting harder & harder.especially when paying council rates. power and other associated government utilities,especially the super duper well known government organization. Citibank havestopped giving points on my BAS spend and inform me I shouldn’t have beengetting them anyway. They have put it to their investigation dept. can theyhave my points earned to qantas returned/removed??:?:

Any suggestion as to which is the best card for pointsearn when paying any government associated dept.

The AMEX Qantas Discovery Card (no fee) still pays 1 point per dollar on Govt and utilities.

For those that accept AMEX. Tried to pay a car rego yesterday and Qld Transport only accepted Visa/MasterCard. Any methods around that. I don't think they take paypal?

interesting. I have been with Amex for over 15 years. I spoke to them a few of weeks ago. they suggested a gold card. I applied and they only gave me a credit of $2000.00. I was so appalled I told them what they could do with it . I didn't even activate it. I spend $2000 a day on my Ultimate card, never paid interest and they insult me with a $2000 limits "thanks"

I believe Amex look at the combined limits across all the cards you hold with them. At least that's what they told me many years ago, when I got a low limit on my Platinum Edge card. So I guess they looked at you as having a combined limit for the ultimate and the gold card. The advice they gave me was that one limit could increase if I reduced the other.
 
Bank branded Amex returns a 1.5 dividend for all Gov spending. Check out the ANZ thread.....50k QFF sign on bonus and Amex/Visa combo returning 1.5 or .75 if you go with Black.
