I couldn't find any reference to this in a search so I hope I didn't miss it.

Can you earn QF FF points for a ticket issued to someone else? Hypothetically, let's say a rellie is flying out from the UK to Oz and they're not a member of any loyalty program so they don't care about the points. If they gave someone else's FF number (ie, mine) for the trip, would I get the points?

The reason I ask is because the subject came up and I mentioned that I'd done this before when my parents have flown domestically - they put my FF# down and I got the points without a problem - and was told that this was not possible. Maybe it worked for me then because the folks have the same surname and this was enough to fool the system. But the hypothetical UK rellies would not share my surname.

I couldn't see anything barring this practise in the FF T&C but I'm sure it's not encouraged. But is it possible nonetheless? The extra 20-odd thousand points for a UK-Oz flight wouldn't go astray...

You can only earn points for travel you take yourself. It is possible to do it on domestic flights where ID isn't checked, or if you have the same first initial and surname, however on an international service there's no way around it.

Can they join the program and gift the points to you? MInd you $160 for 20k points (assuminig 2 people for 2 lots of 10K points for the flights) might be a bit steep...

If said rellies are based in the UK, there wouldn't be a charge to join QF FF.

For non-Australian residents, joing QFF is free of charge, isn't it?

So you can get your rellies to join for free (which is fine), and then gift the points to you (which is also fine, within the "cousin" definition of a relative from QF terms and conditions).

Otherwise you run the risk of breaching terms and conditions of the program, and loosing the points, not to mention possible closure of your account...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ah, I didn't know that membership was free for non-Australian residents. That would work nicely then. They fit the definition of eligible family members too so no problems there.

Well they charge $50NZD for the kiwis.;)
And so they should. They have to pay for all the marketing and competitions in which the Kiwi's are eligible to participate.

yeah thanks for rubbing it in :p

It is against the T&Cs of the program to earn points for flights someone else took. Most FFPs are the same, however some do allow family pooling (with various restrictions and possibly reduced earning rates). If caught breaking the rules then you risk your own account be closed and forfeiture of all your points and any status.

Update: it turns out the rellies will be flying a combination of BA and Qantas. Itinerary is LHR-HKG-SIN-PER-BNE-AKL-SIN-LHR or similar, don't care about the points for the flights for themselves and are happy to pass them on, so that should be a nice little earner :)
