Shame it doesn't have tracking, it's more just an ornament.

If it had tracking, and I was a luggage thief, the first thing I would do when I steal your bag is to remove the tag and throw it in the bin. The idea of tracking devices/tags is to have them hidden and out of plain sight.

Not yet, it's back in the box for now and I'll take it out on my next trip.

My comment was moreso compared to the older Q bag tags where they had RFID tracking. These ones don't anymore. But yes, your point is valid in that, any tracking tags would be the first thing to go.

Nah the rubber used on the old one deteriorates and goes all goopy after a year or two.

Not to mention could only be used at larger domestic airports and should your bag be put on wrong plane or not loaded there is then nothing visual for handlers to quickly work out where to send it.

Give me paper tag everytime, far less prone to error; and always have a tracker in the bag and a photo pf your checked bag on your phone.

Me too - the status tags always sell well. I even used to sell the old plastic ones that were just the rectangles and the really old leather CL tags.

Yep the Q tags never work for me - I gave up. Quicker and easier to print a tag.

Lucky you. I only used Q Tag coasters 3 times and the bag didnt arrive 2 out of 3 so went back to paper tags. Never had a paper tagged bag not arrive on QF domestic.

Clearly QF decided not enough people using them, to make new tags smart.

Same here. I’ve always used q bag tags for domestic too Never had an issue. But moving forward maybe not.

Staying OT a moment longer RE the Q Tags; I've never had any trouble with them either, plus, for those who have older ones that have gone all gummy and sticky, you can clean these up with some isopropyl alcohol (sparingly), or even soap and water. Ours in the family have been rejuvenated a couple of times and they come up great! YMMV, but worth a try if you were looking at tossing them out anyway!

Quick question re Qantas travel insurance. How quickly do the points generally land after the departure date? Online it says can take up to 6 weeks after departure date but wondering what real life experience is?

I've just had a few unexpected bookings for travel to see family on the mainland plus I have a premium economy to London soon. Also heading to Alice on points and will get status from PC+. And I am sure I will get the fuel and hotels SCOG... Sadly I missed all the DSC action this year.

So that all means I will be on 606 SC by May 2026 and my year ends August 2026...

I'm now close enough to think it MAY be worth buying a random travel insurance policy now to get the extra 20 SCs. I've looked into dates and added in a high cost item - so I can get the premium to $100 and earn 1600 points in the current sale (and please note I would purely be taking this out to get SCs - no dodgy claims or anything like that!).

Advice appreciated. I am a bit excited about the possibility of being gold again. CX lounges await!

I've taken the plunge and bought a travel insurance policy to get the 20... bp gave me a 3x offer so I am emptying tank as much as possible and will fill with Ultimate. That should give me 300 and then not far to go (a pack of red rock chips at 10x should do the trick!). And I have hotels coming in soon. I can't do utilities from little ol TAS...

Gold will be within reach......
