I'm not sure if anyone else has picked up on this, but apparently you can now earn Jet Airways JetPrivelege and Garuda Indonesia miles for writing Tripadvisor reviews. I think it's 100-150 miles per review, with bonus miles for adding a photo. The catch with Garuda is that reviews need to be in Indonesian, but I think JetAirways miles are earned for English reviews. I had also seen mention of Lufthansa Miles&More being a part of this but can't find the link.

Here's the link for Jet Airways: https://www.tripadvisor.in/JPMilesRegistration

And Garuda (in Indonesian): https://www.tripadvisor.co.id/GarudaMiles

Don't forget that it's also possible to earn frequent flyer points with American Airlines, airberlin, Lufthansa and Etihad by leaving a review on HolidayCheck: https://secure.holidaycheck.com/wcf/hotelreview/

A month or two ago I noticed that all of a sudden I had about 20,000 TripAdvisor 'points' and that I would be earning 100 points per review going forward. I don't think its JP or Garuda, and it appears that the points aren't redeemable for anything.

Just like the 'just for you' rankings, utterly useless.

I also have over 20,000 TripAdvisor points. I can't tell what (if anything) they're good for either. I would be happy to transfer them to a frequent flyer program, of course, but I think that to earn points in the above programs one has to register using the link before writing the review.

Well its not going to be JP or Garuda if you havent registered! The fact you can register for at least two FF programs kind of indicates these might not be useless going forward.

Before I posted above, and again just now, I checked to see what might be done with the points. I can see no registration options at all. I'm on the TA Australia site, mind you, and the links given by mattg are on the India and Indonesia sites respectively. Maybe something will come up for the Oz site in time; I don't feel inclined to change TA sites just now (although it manages that itself when I'm overseas of course).

In the meantime I'll excitedly chase some more badges - NOT!

I've just sent an email to TripAdvisor (Australia) asking what (if anything) all those TripAdvisor points are actually useful for. Will see what they say.

And... here's their (lackluster) response:

The more points you earn, the higher your TripCollective level -– and the more you’re recognized in the travel community for your contributions. At this time this program is for entertainment purposes only and the points are not redeemable.

TripCollective points have no value, and cannot be used for anything. They are just a measure of your contributions. They are separate to Frequent Flyer programs. TripCollective FAQs:

I suppose anything that raises one's DYKWIA profile can't be a bad thing ;). Although they seemed to have missed an opportunity in calling their levels simply 'Level ...x'. Much better if the words 'platinum' or 'diamond' were in there somewhere ..:)
