Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

ALH - the only catch I've heard of in the past is that sometimes only one voucher can be redeemed with any flight purchase. So you could only use one $500 voucher with a ~$2500 Y ticket Oz-LHR return.
I don't know if this applies with these vouchers?

...so I book 6 different legs to get me to my final destination using 6 Vouchers? :) Joking of course - I did pick up that they can only be used ex Australia. Which rules out using them as presents for flights ex NZ.

Yes, that's how it used to be, though this seems to be the "New and Improved" part... you can use a voucher, regardless of its starting value, to buy any ticket.

E.g.
1. I have a $50 voucher and can buy a $100 ticket
2. I have a $50 voucher and can buy a $1000 ticket.
3. I have a $500 voucher and can buy a $100 ticket, and get a new voucher of $400
4. I have a $500 voucher and can buy a $1000 ticket (and pay the difference of course!)

Under the "old" gift vouchers, item 3 was not possible.

And yes, as you say, you can only use one voucher per booking. So I couldn't apply a $50 and $200 voucher to pay for a single $400 booking.

I bought a few vouchers for personal use during last years promotion. I am thinking that I might buy a few again this year of the $500 variety, and then transfer them to people as required for trips to the footy and such, realising that they will not be under the same booking reference though.

I was thinking of doing the same (transferring vouchers to friends), though I wondered if I would be able to transfer a partially-redeemed voucher? This will determine whether I buy fewer larger-value vouchers or more smaller-value vouchers.

And don't forget that you can use these vouchers to book into the following year as well. I used a voucher that expires this year to book a flight in Jan 13. Might have to cancel the flight and as it is fully refundable it could be interesting to see if I get the full fare back.

be interested to hear the outcome of that

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

We have 2 flights to book each a $500+ return so all up $2000, so we (both QFF members) each buy $1000 or I just buy $2000 worth?.

You need to buy 2 vouchers, (1 for each flight, 2 pax per flight, $500 per pax)
First voucher:
Select 2 passengers, then select $500. When you press GO, the next screen asks for your details and the recipient's details, etc.
When you've finished and paid for that one you can back and start again to purchase the 2nd voucher, exactly the same.

Actually it depends on how you interpret the flight requirements. Are they travelling together or separately? Is it 2 return flights each to 4 separate locations, which would require 4 vouchers. Or is it 2 people travelling together to 2 locations, which requires 2 vouchers as you say.

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

Hmm... so actually, if they credit unused value to a new voucher, it might be easier to buy a bunch of $500 vouchers, and just keep churning through the value... much easier than lots of little individual $50 vouchers.... Am I reading this correct?
I believe that is correct and probably best to buy in $500 lots. Hopefully the new voucher created is instanteous and not have to wait.

My only concern with the old vouchers (you have also raised in another post) was the airfare not including taxes needed to be greater than voucher value and that appears to have been fixed.

I have flights booked through until May 2013 and I am not sure what my movements are going to be like next year. May end up buying more than I will need and if worse comes to worse use them for some quick trips to SIN/BKK when the specials are on. After all ~50,000 QFF points is worth a fair amount even valued at ~1.5c/QFF point.

Thanks. I'll read it thouroughly then

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

Can these be used for oneworld fares (eg LONE4, circle pacific DCIR22-type tickets)?

Qantas Vouchers|Terms and Conditions
The website does not explicitly say if you can or not...

Redeemable for one-way or return Qantas domestic or international flights departing Australia only.

Non-refundable and cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Award or Any Seat Award bookings or redeemed for cash or other goods or services such as additional baggage or seat selection.

A LONE4 is going to have non QF flights at some stage in the itinerary so it doesn't fulfil the inclusion criteria of the first above point but doesn't break the exclusion criteria for the second...

I have a related question: can a voucher be transferred to different names more than once? For example, could I buy a $500 voucher in my name, use $150 of it and transfer the remaining $350 to mrspooky for a $180 flight, and then have her transfer the remaining $170 voucher back to my name?

It's clear about not being able to use the vouchers for Classic Awards and Any Seat Awards, but does anyone know if you can use them with Points + Pay?

Points plus pay is incredibly bad value, I am not sure why anyone would use it with cash or a voucher.

Re: Qantas Gift Vouchers - Earn 10 points per $ spent on Qantas Gift Vouchers

I've finally checked out the full terms and conditions here: Qantas Vouchers|Terms and Conditions.

I'd guess they have completely re-vamped the voucher system. All of the conditions say that a booking fee applies if using a contact center, including for customer care vouchers. All of the conditions also say that the vouchers can be redeemed online. Reading between the lines that suggests that customer care vouchers no longer require phoning in to redeem. A bit of a change since previously these vouchers could not be redeemed online.

I lucked out - just bought one today before the email arrived - soley to save the CC fees on a booking I had to make anyway, but should get the points. Looks like it is time to buy a few more.

The only possible catch - the card payment fee. The detailed T&Cs for the "old" vouchers issued before 12/12/12 specifically states no CC fee payable on the additional amount paid to make up the difference. the T&Cs for vouchers issued from today don't exclude the charging of the CC fee.

The "About" screen for buying the vouchers advertises "Qantas does not charge a card payment fee on gift voucher purchases or redemptions" which implies status quo, but refers to the full T&C for details - and does not seem to rule out a CC fee for paying any outstanding amount.

I think the condition is fairly clear. They don't charge a CC fee on voucher redeemptions. If you make a redeemption and have to use a CC then there should be no fee.

I am going to assume these work the same as other Qantas vouchers

Yes you will get the full fare back, but it's going to be in the form of a booking sitting on your account from QZW Airport - QZY Airport

The expiry date will still be the date of the flight booked, so if you want to do this, I'd be booking the flights as far possible in advance, eg buy vouchers now, they expire on 13th December 2013, you wait until about this time to book something.

So you then book a flight for late November 2014 and then you have any time from November 2013-November 2014 to use them

:)

Already purchased $5000 here, and will now wait a week or so and purchase another 5k for a lazy 120,000 points (100,000 from QF plus 20,000 from Amex) then another xx,xx_ points for whatever I use the vouchers for

Thanks Qantas

I've just been approved for the Qantas Amex Discovery card. Does anyone have any experience with gift card purchases qualifying as a spend "on selected Qantas products and services"?

The fine print says "Selected Qantas products and services are Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number) purchased on the Qantas merchant account, i.e. directly with Qantas or some travel agents, and Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar, Qantas Holidays, and Qantas branded non-airfare products.".

A gift card could be categorised as a "non-airfare product", but it's only purpose is to purchase Qantas passenger flights.

As the voucher was less than the cost of the ticket does that mean that if I cancel I will get a refund for the payment made and a booking in my account?

From what I have attempted recently on the phone with a 2 people NO. The $$ paid via credit card is locked away with the voucher booking so it will sit as a booking QZW Airport - QZY Airport with the full value of the voucher/credit card $$ sitting there

Again, that's what I was told twice by the "Plat desk" and they did claim to confirm it with a supervisor
