Qantas is running an interesting promotion this month for anyone who hasn't held a Qantas Points earning credit card in the last 24 months.

50 million Qantas Points will be divided equally among all members who are approved for a new Qantas Points earning card and make an eligible purchase within 30 days of approval.

Obviously it's difficult to know how many people would be applying for new credit cards, and therefore how many points to expect. But it surely can't be that many?

My wild guess is about 1000 people and 50,000 points each. But perhaps I'm massively underestimating it?

Perhaps I shouldn't post this, because the more people who sign up, the less points I would get!

Qantas used to offer a guaranteed 20,000 points to new card holders.

Then 10,000 points.

Now this ...

My guess is Qantas expect you to get far fewer than 10,000 points.

The whole point (pun intended) of a promotion like this is to make it sound far more impressive than it will be in practice.
