Mrs Emkay and I will be flying out of LHR on QF2 at 2130hrs this Friday night, in J. But arriving there on a non-OW airline at 1230hrs that day. Would like to head into town for the afternoon, but what to do with the luggage?

Will the J seats or my WP status enable us to check it in that early, or will we need to use the Left Luggage facility? I suspect that there won't be any sort of QF desk open until 3-4 hrs before departure?

QF check-in desks at LHR T3 open 5 hours before departure. So that's 16:30 for QF2 and 17:30 for QF10. There was no earlier possibility when I was there last month.

I have a similar issue on a regular basis. I end up catching the Heathrow Express with my luggage to Paddington station, use the left luggage facilities there, go adventuring around town for the day, pick my luggage back up at Paddington station and catch the Heathrow Express back to the airport for check-in.

Works for me anyway :)

Thanks for the info and advice gents - I imagine the Paddington LL fees are a fraction of those at LHR, offsetting part of the HE fare.

Oops, sorry - but now that 'guys' is acceptably used non gender-specifically, I am hoping I can get equivalent usage rights for 'gents'!?

Just checked the ll charges - it's the same company at LHR and Paddo and the costs for > 4hrs are much the same. In this case, would it be easier just to leave it at Heathrow?

Sure, why not? ;)

As for the ease of leaving it at Heathrow, guess it depends if you're arriving and departing from the same terminal...There's the T5 station and the Central Heathrow station.

A little tip is to consider Heathrow Connect instead of Heathrow Express.

Heathrow Connect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Now, Heathrow Connect is marketed as a much cheaper way to reach Paddington from Heathrow and vice versa, with a single fare of £9.10 (just over half the Heathrow Express fare) and a journey time of 25 minutes against the Express time of 15 minutes.
