Early Departure Fee on a One-Night Hotel Stay?

Really quite simple isn't it. By enhancing the check-in and out times, there's more opportunity to charge fees for things that used to be normal. MBAs are doing their thing for hotels as well as airlines.

Sounds like the hidden ticket pricing
Fly less, pay more
Fly more, pay less

Paying less for more services
Similar also to a late collection fee (or even booking cancellation) imposed by some car hire joints. If I've paid for a vehicle from, say, 12pm, then it's not the concern of the company if I pick it up later.

If they're greedy or stupid enough to have a pricing system that can be gamed so that a longer stay/hire/flight is cheaper than a shorter one, then they can't blame the player and certainly shouldn't be taking it out on them.

In Australia many hotels and packages now offer a ‘super late’ checkout of … ‘11am’, so you can ‘fully enjoy your morning’. Err… no, it always used to be midday! And if ‘super late’ is 11am, what’s the regular time?
I always thought check out time in Australia is/was 10:00am. (In Thailand most are midday.)

Ibis Mascot offering late check out until 4:00pm for an extra $50 which sounds worth it to me.
