Last time I applied for a Visa for India it was a traumatic experience. I see now they allow e-Visa and you can get on for casual business purposes. I'm planning to go to India for about a week to have business and technical meetings with a vendor who is working for us and this seems to be allowed under this category, but wanted to check with our pool of experts if anyone has done this and has reports of success and/or issues with this process.

I have done this for a short business trip of 8 days, when I ran out of time to get a business visa. I have had 3-4 business visas in the past.

The process is wonderfully quick - simply pay and upload a photo online. I got a confirmation email the next day. Then gave the confirmation print out at the specific desk for e-tourist visas when entering at BOM. Obviously when filling out the arrival form I chose 'tourism'.

One thing though, when I came to reconcile the credit card transaction later, it seems I didn't get a receipt through email and the payment amount is not mentioned in the visa confirmation. So if that's something you need, I suggest taking a photo of the payment receipt page for later use. There's also a limit of 2 e visas a year so it won't replace a business visa if you are entering often.
