I have an SG friend who is travelling in economy MEL-LHR shortly on QF9.

Do they get access to priority transit security during the DXB layover.

If so, then how? With an Express Pass or the Gold/Sapphire on their BP?

(I have never done this myself.)

Dubai is super efficient anyway regardless of status/class. Its more about the distance getting to the terminal from the plane and between terminals.

Thanks but this is for someone trying to squeeze in a shower between getting off and getting on the same aircraft.

Thanks but not really relevant for someone trying to squeeze in a shower between getting off and getting on the same aircraft.

Well it is. It can take over 40 minutes to get to the terminal if in Y. No status priority. Depends where the plane is parked. Only first class gets off first and into their own bus. Then business on a separate bus then Y might exit at the same time if there is a rear exit operating but obviously many more people. No status help.

Bus?

With QF9 (QANTAS A380 service MEL-DXB-LHR) wouldn't you normally hop straight off the plane into the terminal? After clearing security you'd be able to go into the lounge. The onward QF9 flight would normally leave from one of the gates in the same area, perhaps even the same gate.

If you were connecting between QF9 and an EK flight on a smaller plane then buses and the like would come into it.

I've never seen any sign of a priority queue for transit security at DXB, but it's always pretty quick anyway.

I've never noticed a priority queue going through DXB.

Can be quick if you're one of the first off, but if behind the wave of people it might take a while. I barely had time for a shower last time I did the straight through.

Exactly my first point. Its very efficient. Unless you are parked in the boondocks. And our Emirates flight into Dubai from Oz was.

Yeah I had a stand->terminal ride of about 25 minutes once; at least the F bus is comfortable :)

Bus!

If a bus is needed, my friend would be lucky to make the lounge, let alone have a shower. :)

OK - let's start with, for example, A24 arrival and departure - no bus.

PAX head downstairs and look for transit security - no train needed.

If there is a priority queue then how to access.

If no such queue and there's 350 or so pax transiting then it seems they need to be among the first few % off the aircraft.

If one of the last off not only would you have less time, but others may have booked the showers ahead of you.

A shower between flights is not essential but obviously it is nice to freshen up. Personally I don't think it's worth bothering about a shower with such a short time between flights, but we all have different preferences.

There is sometimes a priority queue for transit through security (depends on the arrival gate). IIRC, it is labelled Business/First. QFF SG flying Y can use it. Rarely if ever makes a difference as they push people through all the queues pretty quickly.

It will be difficult but not impossible to fit in a shower in transit in DXB on QF9. Tell your friend to go straight to the shower desks and put his/her name down. If the queue is under 10-15 people, he/she should probably make it. If not, it is unlikely.

Clearly people here haven't read the rant thread by Renato about the bus.
I certainly have read that, however my query was intended to be specific but I failed to frame the question so as to discount the situation of having to use a bus gate.

I do apologise for not being clear.

haven't seen one but I always get off as fast as possible and walk briskly to get to the lounge asap as I do like to freshen up between flights

I'm sorry, that came across too blunt from my end. It was an ironic post but should have inserted one of these :p

QF almost always uses a jetbridge gate at concourse A. A380s generally get priority but not always for a jetbridge gate.

When exiting into the arrivals corridors, generally everyone transiting will go for the first transit security point. Often there will be a second transit security point if you continue following the regular arrivals sign (maybe another 20-30 metres from the first security point). This would usually be faster than using the priority line at the first security point.

Otherwise, if using the first security point that you see, the layout is there's 2 straight lines in the centre for F/J/priority pax and then 2 snakes on either side for regular Y pax, so make use of the priority line down the centre.

As you are probably aware, there's more than one lot of showers in the concourse A lounge, so be sure to check around.

Thanks for that - my shortest transit at DXB has been 20 hours so have never needed to use it.
