Hi Guys,

One of my friends (no QF status) is heading over to Europe next year flying Y on EK metal but booked on QF website and on QF flight numbers.

So my question; if I give them QF Lounge Passes will they be able to use them?

I did read through the Lounge rules on Qantas site twice, and would presume they have the same rights as a QC member so would be allowed into the business lounge?

Thanks for any help.

What does the back of the pass say? They usually stipulate Qantas Operated Lounge and exclude partner lounges.

QC passes are only valid for QF Lounges. They will not be able use these in the EK Lounges at DXB

Bugger - ok thanks guys for the replies, I was going to be nice and give them a couple of passes to make the 4 hour wait more pleasant in DXB but that is not going to work.

Just lucky I have got status for my trip through there - although the lounges even F has no life or personality.

They are new and huge - there's going to be a certain time before they develop a corporate life and work out the best ways of doing things.

I found the Flounge to be welcoming and comfortable. In fact I thought it was better than the Sydney Flounge, and that's saying something.

But not as good as the Melbourne F Lounge :)

I didn't really care to have to wait 20 minutes for a shower as an F pax. The lounge is vast but was devoid of any decent service, staff or showers when I had the obligatory QF1 stopover.

I do like that they have reserved a lift now for F pax, much better than piling in with the already crowded J pax that descend from above.

People in your lift going down t the same level as you from the J Lounge would be economy passengers as entry for F and Y are on the same level, all be it via different bridges, :) :)

These are lifts in the lounge that I am referring to, and while I have no objection to sharing, they are packed on boarding of QF1/2, so a dedicated F lift helps, and there were no Y pax in it, but I take your point about the level, usually F board from the front door, Y from the next one down. The problem is the J lounge is above so the lifts fill there first.

Anyway this was a minor grievance, my biggest issue is a 20min wait for a shower as an F pax after a 16 hour sector. They clearly need more showers.

Having been through DXB many many times I totally agree re the showers

I didn't have to wait for a shower but after using the F lift I had to queue up behind some whinging WP who was in Y but wasn't happy with his seat. After 5 minutes I gently pointed out I was in F but I was still told I had to wait behind him.

Ahh the old gate whinging syndrome. Not specific to WP I might add.

I actually agree with this. Both the J and F lounges in Dubai are not that great, especially when you consider the amount of space they had to work with.

The showers are completely inadequate, put your name down on the list and wait... a while.

The toilet facilities are dark and small, and the whole space is lifeless.

The J lounge has life - sometimes too much - can get very crowded at certain times of day.

I find the table service in the EK F lounge to be more attentive than QF, CX or BA F lounge service. I agree that a few more showers could have been built in the DXB F lounge. At least they have a few couches and tables next to the shower facility entrance, so you can get a drink and read the paper while waiting for your turn.

I might throw a question in here, save starting a new thread. Lounge access always talks about "same day" however QF1 departs at 2am.

I have a connecting OW flight arriving in DXB at 6am (20 hour stopover) and then departing on QF1 the next day at 2am - am I going to be able to access to the lounge that morning for a shower/etc and breakfast? Or when will access open up?

Thanks :)

I think you should have access, the lounge is open 24 hours and you are connecting from a OW flight to a OW flight departing before 6AM the following day (Oneworld policy). Of course it can be a bit tricky in this case, because access to EK lounge is only for QF PAX and not other OW PAX, so maybe the OW wording doesn't apply at all in this case.

did you point out you were in F? When we came back from Africa in September we had been travelling for 24 hours and I desperately needed a shower. Initially when we registered for showers I gave the young girl my boarding pass and was told there was a queue and to go and have some breakfast. I did so, came back and found I still had to wait. I am not usually pushy, but this time I did say surely there was a priority system and the older woman who was now running things said yes but only if you are in F, so I said I was and she checked my boarding pass and then I got the next shower. I plan in future to point out that I am in F to make sure it gets registered for priority. Of course flying on Emirates metal on their A380 gives you an onboard shower and I really liked that on the outward leg!

I didn't think it was a dedicated F lift? I thought it said F and some Y? Although I was so tired I am probably not remembering it properly.

I don't make a song and dance about being in F - I hand them my boarding pass and presume they read it. If there is priority then it is not clear and therefore is poor service.

To be honest I find the EK lounge underwhelming, and -shock- actually look forward to getting back on the aircraft!

I can't remember exactly re: lift either, probably depends on the gate. I do recall the furthest lift was marked for F pax.

Last time I was there I had to chuckle as John Howard proceeded down the back to J while I went to F. We really should look after our statesmen better than that! ;)

yes I did the same thing initially and there did not appear to be any notice taken of the fact that I was in F as far as showers go. I agree with you it should happen automatically, but now that I know it doesn't I will definitely point it out (gently and not in a DYKWIA way). From memory there were 3 lifts and the furthest was marked F and some rows of Y - it was very easy to get a lift and I don't recall waiting (this was for QF2).

I liked the the lounge, but then I tend to like most things.

Funny about John Howard!

That'll teach you for assuming that people read!

Back in the day when it wasn't PIN-only and people still signed on credit card receipts I swear you could doodle a dragon on the dotted line and no one would look twice at it.
