DXB Layover Tips

Greetings all,

I have a 12 hour layover coming up at DXB. A necessary addition in order to secure EK F into MEL from LHR.

Does the group recommend the dxb international hotel or is it worth venturing out for a better hotel?

I have no interest in visiting Dubai, rather want to relax in comfort and maybe use a gym. Ideal plan may be to stay up on overnight flight into dxb (BA club world old style) and rest up ready to enjoy the F flight to maximum possible extent.

Many thanks for any recommendations.

I am in the Dubai International Hotel camp for 12 hours, especially when you have lounge access either side.

Ps. The last time I was in EK Dubai F lounge (several years ago) they had Torbreck Run Rig on the counter. It was 8am and I had a 10am flight…best breakfast ever.

I am wondering is it possible to go to the city (eg Dubai Mall, Palm Jumeirah, Burj Khalifa) with a nine hour layover in Dubai. Bearing in mind I will probably want to have a bite at the lounge coming back for my connecting flight to Europe.

Do you know if the Dubai Metro gets anywhere near the airport?

Many thanks

Yes I've taken the Dubai Metro from Terminal 3 to the Dubai Mall during a similar layover. It was in summer and HOT! What month will you be there?

Late May. I expect it to be HOT. Is there aircon on the Dubai metro? When do the shops open in town?

I was there again in early May and it was already HOT but not steamy. At least there is aircon everywhere. I think most shops in the mall open at 10 am at the earliest.

Sorry to post again but just realised that by choosing the right destination in Europe I can actually in theory get a 22 hour stopover in DXB (God knows if this will actually work though) by getting an early morning (eg 0430) flight from DXB to AMS/CDG/FRA.

A few questions:

- Does the lounge in DXB stay open all night?
- Are there any good museums in Dubai worth a visit?
- Are certain parts of Dubai prettier at night?
- Do you still get a proper meal on an early morning flight into Europe?
- Are there "sleeper pods" in the F or J lounge in Dubai like the ones they have in SIN and DOH so you can sleep for a few hours?

Sorry it's me again and pretty much yes to all the questions - my favourite EK lounge is Concourse A where I've slept in the quiet room

When you say you've slept in the quiet room, is there a bed (or at least a stretcher-like device) that you can sleep on?

Yes there are even blankets, eye shades and ear plugs provided
