My niece is travelling LHR-DXB-MEL in a few days time, and has asked a rather non-specific question re duty free.

Presumably LHR is out because of LAGS, so that leaves DXB and MEL. I have no idea exactly what she wants to buy but a quick glance through liquor prices makes DXB seem much cheaper than MEL.

OTOH, Bose QC3s for example appear considerably more expensive DF at DXB than they are purchased from a 'normal' retail outlet in Melbourne.

Price aside, are there any traps for the unwary when purchasing DF at DXB? (e.g. like SIN or HKG or wherever it is that you cannot take it onboard)?

Thanks

PS. Poms just all out. :)
