Duty Free booze - why is it still a thing???

Returning from my last overseas trip I purchased some spirits at ADL airport. A lot cheaper than retail. You just have to do your homework. A new mobile was cheaper from a city retailer than DF so guess who got my business for that item.
 
Lotte duty free at BNE often send me specials. For instance 50% off the second item. When that's added to the already good price of 2 large bottles of good gin, then it works out to be half price of retail.
So in my estimation it's a no brainer.

Yes, its Lotte Duty Free in NZ I find great value too, I think they are in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. Out of Sydney I'm on the Heinemanns email list but have yet to get an offer of any value.
