Hi all unfortunately I have been unwell since the new year started.(Mental health work place stress)

This has curtailed me until now to try even look up a flight plan and I don't know know if too late for flights that could be some way reasonable?

We were planning to go to Australia,Sydney for this Christmas a once in a lifetime trip because kids are correct ages for school not to disrupt them too much in missing out.

The trip would be mid December to first week into January approx flexible dates.

The price range is so expensive quotes of e7800 Turkish ( stopover for a night Istanbul after only flying 4 half hours) or €10200 economy Qatar Airlines,Emirates roughly the same these two airlines out of Dublin seem to be best .

Their would be 2 kids traveling with us one would be 12 in July so makes him an adult if booked after that.

Any ideas from people where we could try get flights that suit a budget (€6000 is this not possible or do I give up?)

and that are not 36 hours plus etc and changing flights in 2/3 different cities?

Any help with ideas very great full.

If you can stomach an extra layover or two, have a look at Scoot from Vienna (not daily but I think 3x a week) through Singapore and fly yourself to and from Vienna separately. Looks like possible for around 1000eur a head before adding on baggage etc and excluding Dublin to Vienna

Be sure to allow enough time between flights if booking on separate tickets

Pricing tends to appear different in different countries ... I tried using my browser in Private Mode but the numbers still appeared in AUD so the prices are probably still Australia-targeted.

However I just tried using Google Flights, with trip dates spanning mid December to mid January, and it showed a Turkish fare (with two stopovers and 40hr flight-time admittedly) which was just under 10000 AUD, which translates to about 5800 Euro.

My experience has been that in Australia we pay way more for the same fares than people in Europe do (eg. I have workmates in Belgium who've caught the exact same flights, on whichever middle eastern airline does Brussels-Sydney with only one stop, as workmates in Sydney - and originating from Sydney the flight was ~30% more to buy), so in my (admittedly limited) experience I'd have thought you should be able to better a fare I'm seeing in Australia.
But as I said, limited experience, and also pre-COVID.

Asiana can get you from Rome (FCO) to Sydney via Seoul on the one ticket return for €6-7K approx 3adults and 1 child mid december
RyanAir from Dublin to Rome FCO

Note that RyanAir often flies to a smaller airport in a city
For example Ryanair operates to Frankfurt Hahn (HHN) whereas most international airlines such as Asiana operate to Franfurk (FRA). The distance between HHn and FRA is 120km by road.

You could check for Istanbul, Paris, London.
I would not fly out of Heathrow as the fares will be much more expensive.

Play around with dates to bringthe price down. December January is an expensive time to travel.

At those exact times are gazillions of Aussies & Kiwis living in UK-EU, who will return for a few weeks with family (and better weather) at Christmas - New Year.
DUB has a reputation of better pricing than LHR.
Looking for BNE or MEL may offer better pricing. With separate AU domestic flights. If you do that, allow a lot of time between arrivals - departures.

Will be a consideration of price-more direct route with minimal transit vs cheap~cheap with more transit airports and/or separate flights in EU - Asia.

Note HU flys DUB-China- SYD/MEL

Google flights is showing a 2 stopper with Lufthansa and Asiana for $2481AUD (~€1412)

Interesting that it drops further to $2140 when I try to book. Have a play with Google Flights.

A colleague just booked SYD-KUL-IST-CDG and FCO-IST-KUL-SYD for 4 adults departing 20 Dec returning mid Jan for AU$8.3k with Turkish airlines. They have had great teaser rates because its new route.

Noting that the stop in KUL is brief for refueling and same plane continues; so not really a stop-over.

OP is looking for reverse

Thanks all,I waking up to options didn't know exist, really helpful and gives me a more positive attitude.I maybe over thinking 36 hours like others have said it's peak time beggars can't be choosers as such.
I think the Turkish airlines looks the most favourable.

Welcome @bobthebuilder966
Sorry to hear of the health issues

Air miles is not going to be a solution as gifting air miles to non family is against airline terms and conditions

Exapnding @tassie6 's suggestion:
Ryanair Dublin to Vienna
Then Scoot from Vienna-Singapore-Sydney
Thank you, appreciate your help.
