Hello,

Looking at flights for my wife and 2 children 5 & 3, Y class Dublin - Melbourne between jan 15 - 20th, prefer the weekend of the 18 - 19th. Travel time inside 29 hrs with max transit of 4 hours or the kids will go nuts. EY & EK are most direct only 1 stop but most expensive, 2 stops are OK if total trip is under 29 hrs. Bags need to be thru checked all the way or she will strangle me!

Best I can find is skyscanner & itamatrix around $2200 EI dub-lhr then MH lhr-kul-Mel, which is fine.

Basically looking for the easiest, simplest cheapest journey. I have 22000 EY points, might be able to buy a coffee and muffin with that! they also have a nanny onboard, if there is anything under $2600 for EY,EK would consider as they are preferred but not absolute.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

$2200 for 3 is a pretty good fare.

Best I can find is expedia.com.br on QF (codeshare, EK metal), DUB-DXB-KUL-MEL so 2 stop, 26h10 minutes at 4552 Real - $2183 according to Google (so will be more in the real world). For the same price you could go 1 stop and have an overnight stop in DXB.

More SCs and points than the EI / MH flight and avoids the hell that is LHR. Also spotted BA / MH for about $10 more than your EI / MH deal, which might be better on the basis that it is all Oneworld.

I know this flies in the face of your question, but I'd be tempted to pay the extra $500 or so, and put them on the one stop EY flight - the quickest and least disruptive option. Family pooling might also give one person status if the booking class works.

Thanks Greenfish for your research and advice.

The wife likes the EK option DUB DXB KUL MEL as we have flown with them before and they are great with the kids. I think the KUL stop is likely the same aircraft so not to inconvenient.

expedia.com.br have that option on the 19th at R4616 around $2250 odd but will end being closer to $2500 i suspect. The cheapest EY i can find is in excess of $3000.

Is there any tips/tricks or other info i need to book on expedia.com.br.

Unable to PM you as i have not posted 15+ yet. Any ideas so i can organise $ once ive booked.

Thanks again

I'm looking for MEL-Dublin return for next year. Probably in Y+ or J if a good deal can be had. Happy to have separate tickets Aus-Asia and then Asia-Dublin if that helps. Would consider QR too since they should be in oneworld by then.

QF on EK codeshare has no Y+ is a bit of a problem, unless there's a way of getting the EK leg on J for cheap. AY don't go there, nor do RJ. Is BA the only non EK airline to fly there?

Hi Isochronous, EY fly there, but it looks like you're looking for Oneworld options? Might pay to open a new request.

Scarfinn, thank you very much for the payment - I'm pleased to hear the EK route worked out for you...
