If I book via QFF HKG/VIE and there is a forced 20 hour layover in DXB does Dubai Connect with free meals and hotel apply or must flights be booked through EK?.

If its EK J HKG/DXB and Y DXB/VIE, does this make any difference?.
 
Have 20 hour layover in DXB, should qualify for Emirates Connect, but if I get this right the luggage is checked through to final destination, if so what does one take to hotel they provide?.
