A Royal Flying Doctor Service pilot has been sacked after returning a positive result for a drug and alcohol test, following an incident during a flight between Bundaberg and Brisbane.

The RFDS has released a statement saying the pilot had been dismissed following a "recent incident" on a King Air B200 but did not go into the details, including the date the incident took place.
RFDS chief executive Nino Di Marco said the pilot had tested positive to a banned substance but noted the plane and its passengers had landed safely.
