One afternoon going home from the hospital the building across the road caught my eye.Fine arts indeed!

Saturday and back to the Gardens to walk around as a fine day.But first a visit to the Hummock.Stands out like a sore thumb.Around it prime farming country.Between Bargara and the Hummock fields of sweet potato.

And across the canefields to the river and the sugar terminal.
1594254726388.jpeg.1594254746640.jpeg.

Bundaberg CBD and then Bargara.
1594255644844.jpeg.1594255662120.jpeg.

The unit I was staying in is the last block on the top right of the second picture.
A little forward thinking saved this view.
1594255768008.jpeg.

Then on to a part of Bundaberg's history.
1594255814615.jpeg.

Built in 1902 this water tower was part of Bundy's first water distribution system.

1594256643209.jpeg.1594256660937.jpeg.

Then a long walk all around the gardens.lots of bird life plus a few animals.

There is a craft brewery in the CBD which advertised lunches on the weekend. It was closed. So I went to the Targo street bakery which is run by a vietnamese couple.Had had a very good meat pie there but today they were making banh mi.very nice but I forgot the picture.I went down to the river to eat it.

The first building is now a very good Indian restaurant.

Drove back to the apartment the long way via the Port and the mouth of the Burnett river. Was looking at getting some fresh seafood but the place was closed. So down to the port and out to the Heads.

Sunday and a drive to Mt.Perry.I made a stop on the way at the Mysterious craters.Wow.Exciting.But doesn't cost much.Possibly might charm a geologist.

And an old shed with lots of old stuff.
1594638691383.jpeg.1594638707491.jpeg.

1594638721951.jpeg.

And in the gift shop a pretty big rock and mineral collection.Just a couple from favourite spots.Coober Pedy and Lake Pedder.
1594638815370.jpeg.1594638914261.jpeg.

I made a short stop in Gin Gin hoping to have an early lunch but the 2 good bakeries were closed so I pushed on to Mt.Perry.

On the way to mt.Perry I made a detour to an historic railway tunnel.
1594689587450.jpeg.1594689602640.jpeg.

The railway line closed in 1960 and now is home to the character in the second pic-the bentwing bat.

The tunnel was built for the copper mines of Mt.Perry.As luck would happen they closed down as the railway was being built. They reopened the smelter for a while on completion of the railway. They did come back to life for a few years prior to WW1.

1594691238150.jpeg.1594691255265.jpeg.

Approaching the tunnel from the Bundaberg end.
1594691300568.jpeg.1594691317472.jpeg.

There is a larger parking area at the other end of the tunnel so I drove through, parked and walked back through the tunnel. The longest unlined and unsupported railway tunnel in QLD.

1594691465986.jpeg.1594691480933.jpeg.

When I arrived in Mt.Perry the first thing I wanted was lunch.Basically the only place open was the Genera Store but they did mealsI had a steak sandwhich with the works.Old fashioned with eggs, bacon and salad with lots of tomato and tinned beetroot. But no pineapple.Messy but nice.I was too hungry to take a picture.
Then up to the back of town to the site of one of the smelters.
1594703533514.jpeg.1594703548569.jpeg.

1594703565827.jpeg.1594703581390.jpeg.

Some pictures of the hey day of Mt.Perry.

1594880111457.jpeg,

1594880169329.jpeg.1594880184950.jpeg.

And somewhere over there is Mt.Rawdon and a gold mine.
1594880245142.jpeg.

The men's shed.
1594880326139.jpeg.

In it's day this place had 21 hotels.now only one and it was closed. Also a museum and Art Gallery. They als were closed.
Basically only one famous person born in Mt.Perry and it came as a surprise as both mrsdrron and our Daughter in law like her designs.Florence Broadhurst.

I then went up to the lookout before returning to Bundy.

1594880590397.jpeg.

1594880611459.jpeg.

There were only 2 more days of work and so I drove home on the Wednesday.A huge Macadamia plantation a little way off the Bruce highway towaeds Bundy. They were harvesting but a shot without the harvester.
1594880889562.jpeg.

So that's all folks.Hope there is something for those driving up the coast of QLD.
