Sorry a combination of being on call and having to send everything to the accountant for my tax return and I forgot to reply. i found my Townsville TR and I did a day trip to Ayr and a little of the Alligator Creek walk which was very pleasant. Starts at post 109. Also reports of a walk around the top of Mt. stewart and the Town common walks if you haven't done them in Townsville.
Hi, have you been to The Palmetum, Townsvill? I haven’t been to the tea room next to it, unsure what it’s like. I work in Charters Towers at local hospital, nice community. Lots of southern visitors winter weather as you saw at the Fletcher.

However I was going to link the Nat Parks page but found that walk is closed until the end of the year.

If you get down to Mackay worthwhile to go up to Eungella NP.
High above the surrounding plains, this mist-shrouded and forest-clad mountain refuge is one of Queensland’s most ecologically diverse parks with 860 plant species and a wonderful variety of wildlife.

Then do a loop out west to Nebo and Moranbah with a stop at the Peak Range NP.
For a scenic drive, travel along the Peak Downs Highway for panoramic views of the Peak Range. The Peak Range is a chain of prominent and picturesque mountains

Then connect to the road up to Charters Towers and back down to Townsville.
