My son and I are driving the above route for nearly three weeks in August. We both enjoy live music of any kind, from the big stadium gigs (already booked for NIN in Austin) to anything in a local juke joint, so would welcome any advice on friendly little bars and clubs, even places off the beaten track, with a welcoming atmosphere.

Of course, any other comments about interesting places to visit that may not appear in the guidebooks would also be most welcome.

Might see you on the road flyrod.

The missus and I get into New Orleans on the 17th and hire a car on the 20th.

Will make our way from NO to Dallas over the next 3-4 days but haven't really worked out a plan yet.

From what I have read so far the two places for live music will be NO and Austin.

Will let you know if my research turns up any useful info.
