Has anyone flown economy Australia to USA on the Dreamliner that has previously flown in the same class on a A380. How does the seating compare?

I am 6ft and can fit the A380 seats ok. I am tempted to fly Dreamliner for the experience even at the expense of some QFF points .

I am afraid it does not sound too good. I am willing to try the 787 economy product but don't think I will enjoy it at all.

I am one of those people in the other thread who said they were not happy with the 787 9 abreast seating. I have also flown in the A380 - SQ - and found it much more comfortable. We were in the exit row all 4 times and those seats are slightly narrower than the standard A380 seats but are still more comfortable. The A380 also appears quieter to me in the economy cabin.

A short hop on the 787 - maybe up to 2 hours would be ok but not much longer.

I'm guessing UA? Their Y+ seats would be fine.

People seem to be most concerned about the width of the seats. UA Y+ are the same seats with extra legroom so width is no different. But I guess the extra legroom compensates somewhat.

I get that, but the OP made mention of their height. Which suggests legroom is an issue to them.

Yes true. I guess it also depends on their weight/build. Without status though the Y+ is often at a substantial premium. Recently had the choice of regular Y seat on UA 787 (PVG-LAX) or pay $340USD for middle (non aisle/non window) Y+ seat. Would have maybe considered for an aisle Y+ but not paying that much to be still wedged in between people.

Oh I agree. Assuming that QF is in the same ballpark with UA with the Y+ surcharge. I'd take QF. Although the OP does seem to want to try a 787 for the novelty factor.

IF the seating width and leg room is the same as the A380 then I would *happily* fly the dreamliner for the novelty factor and maybe more regularly but if the specs are less than the A380 then there is no way I would fly to LA or DFW or Dubai LHR

We always take an aisle seat plus one in the middle rows and have learned to sleep except for trips to the wc . we dont care about window seats.

For a simplistic way of working things out, take the floor area and divide it by the passenger numbers. The A380 is about 550m squared. Can't find a definitive number of the 787, but just multiplying the cabin length by the width (and not allowing for any of the tumblehome) you get an answer around 250-275m. 380 configuration is approximately 500, so, 1.1 square metres per passenger. With would mean that at any configuration greater than 225-250 PoB, the 787 would be offering less space on average.

Strange thing happened to me recently.

Flying EK A380 BKK-HKG in upper deck business. Taxiing in BKK airport and I was looking outside admiring the scenery when the next thing I notice we were in the air. Didn't feel that we had taken off. Totally surprised me. Don't remember having the same feeling with QF A380 or I was more alert this time.

Only a very short sector, so maximum derate. Power would have been around 67%. A high percentage of the QF sectors are TO/GA, or close to it. The power is especially noticeable when you have the multi stage increase, which may not happen with the engines used by Emirates.

I know some people here don't agree and that's ok.

I feel very comfortable in any economy seat in a QF 747. The same goes for QF A380. I don't get the same feeling in a QF A330. The seat feels narrower. The aisles feel narrower. The cabin feels extremely cramped. I try to avoid flying in the A330 but sometimes unavoidable.

I believe the QF 787 seats will be narrower. The cabin will feel more cramped. Maybe some seats will feel different. I am willing to give it a try but I think it will disappoint.
