Double SC offer

I get the feeling it's for people who they think are trying to attain status... Maybe some fancy algorithm?

Maybe some fancy algorithm?

It could be random too, I guess if we were able to discover the criteria for these targeted emails, it could be overutilised or manipulated... Not that we'd do that ;)

In my case I will hit status right on the cutoff date- and the dates to fly are a little too early for the trip I'm planning overseas later in the year.

That's unfortunate, difficult to know who they're targeting.. Any hope of attaining gold this year?

Milefest - a big chunk will expire by end of May, and unless I do a status run, I wont make SG..

However, I might call up VA on Monday to see and ask if I can have the same offer that "my friend" got wrt double SCs.. If I get that offer, a status run might look attractive

Friend received it - is silver and not far off gold.

I received it and am right in the middle of status review - having requalified for gold so I would not have been targeted for any reason.

Our daughter booked her SYD-LAX return flights last December, for travel during March this year. Then in February, she received an email inviting her to earn Double/Triple Points for flights in March and August. The T&C's advertised the Promotion Period window, but never actually stated that it would not apply to existing bookings.
I activated the offer anyway, on her behalf.
She was gifted triple points for both sectors, even though she only flew economy.
Moral of this story?
Click, activate and hope for the best. The worst they can say is no.................

Interesting result. I received the same e-mail that would allow me to fast-track to Gold with 460SC at this point. Definitely a nice touch although I have already booked another 2 flights that'll get me through by June. Let's just hoping to double SC nonetheless!

Called up VA and asked why my 'friends' got this offer but I didnt.

The call agent said that to qualify for the offer, you needed to have something along the lines of:

- At least 18 years old
- Have flow in the last little while (I cant remember if she said 6 months or 12 months)
- At least 50% towards the next status level upgrade (ie, if silver, at least 250 SCs)

I ticked all those boxes and asked her why I didn't get the offer. She checked with her IT team and said that because I didn't have 'Velocity Exclusives' ticked in my communication preferences below, I was excluded from the double SCs offer. This is probably why some AFFs got it, and some didnt get it.

I mentioned to her that this is a rather arbitrary way to target certain members but not the others, and ended up speaking with her or her manager to get myself on the promotion (be it them sending me that email or adding my name to the promotions list manually).

However, they were adamant that this was a one-time offer and since I wasnt sent the email on the day, I cannot be added to that list regardless of whether I was part of their target because I didnt have the right communication preferences ticked :(. I asked whether they can just add a note to my account, to which they said (again) since I wasn't sent the email on the day, I will not be able to get the offer. I pleaded that I was pretty close to Gold and this would entice me to fly Virgin over the next few weeks, but no success.

So tl;dr, to get these Velocity offers (such as this double SCs offer), make sure they are all ticked 'yes' in your Velocity communication preferences.

They were polite but not entirely helpful, and I'm considering reaching out to Velocity via Twitter. Thoughts?

I did get a rather nice "Your 6 month Gold membership update" email with some nice graphs telling me how many eligible sectors I have to date and how many SCs I have currently and where I need to be in October.

Very nice looking email and they've obviously gone to a lot effort. Guess which email I'd rather receive though?

Geez, I qualify for all those X pointers but still didn't get that elusive email. I've just booked 4 flights and will end up short by 100sc for SG again. :-(

I too have all of those criteria met and all those boxes ticked and still didn't receive it.

Well i am on the way to Plat, have flown quite a bit since Christmas and have all boxes ticked. Very strange! i think maybe it's more random.

I'd say the phone person really had no clue. I have all of the above and had no offer, but i'm about to re-qual for WP anyway (6 months into my year). Keeping WP is never an issue when it's only 800 a year :)

Hmm thanks all for the feedback - maybe it is more random than I initially thought... But I've made sure to tick 'yes' to all the Velocity communications to increase my chances of getting an offer next time

I think I was just short of halfway to SG at the time but have plenty of bookings in the next few months. I could really use it though to ensure I get there by September. Got a SYD-LAX-SYD just after my anniversary though!

I'm sure I'm on the list for everything as I seem to get every other promotion. What about all the mail going to my AusPost digital mailbox now? Does anyone ever check that?

V-mail/Velocity Email preferences seem to be the main reason many of us miss out on these kinds of promotions.

Just a note for anyone working at VA/VFF, having Velocity email preferences and V-mail preferences, both with different logins (and varying credential rules) is an incredibly stupid and poorly implemented method of distributing different promotions and information for the same airline. The website is only getting more fragmented and confusing for the average user..

Have I worked this out right? I have activated this offer (received the email). If I book a one way flight from OOL to MEL but with a stopover in Syd I will earn 80 status credits? 80 SC's for $260 isn't bad!

If flying J, yes. 40SC each flight.

For $260 it seems like it's Y tho.

I'm doing NTL-MEL-BNE at the end of the month for $229 / 25SC.
Thats 1xSC = $9.19

Reasonable value but not a bargain

Sorry I meant the fully flexible fares, which are $260 for OOL to MEL via Syd.

Yes that would give you 20sc per flight, so $6.50 each.

Not bad!
