Double Points offer from Velocity

Anyone know for sure how the double points offer bonus will quackulate with WP status bonus?

Lets say a flight is worth 100 points.

A.) Will it work as 100 + 100 (Double points offer bonus) + 100 (WP bonus) = 300

or

B.) [100 + 100 (Double points)] x 2 (WP bonus) = 400

Safe flying,
CB

I have recently booked 15 VA flights through to 26 Mar 2015. LOL!

Only 2 flights remain that I can book.

Wow! Why would you book that far in advance with VA? It's not qantas. Cheap fares are still available 6 weeks in advance and even only a few weeks in advance. I love not handing out my money 7 months in advance.

I'd rather be prepared now than take a risk later. Some of those OOL flights were very cheap.

Meh! I picked up $89 SYD-ADL for 23 December in the last couple of weeks. I might have been able to get that for $83 six months ago. On the flip side flights purchased at the same time for 22 and 29 sept cost $122 and $143. Even with these prices my average cost per VA flight is $103.

Every month I keep my money saves me about $50. Buying 3 months in advance instead of 6 months pays for that $143 flight.

Both VA and QAN management have indicated that the "price war" is over although the recent 3 trips I have booked with VA in the last 2 weeks, I have not seen a noticable difference (SYD-PER, SYD-MEL & SYD- BNE).

I think this is the start of the "points war" between both airlines.

Would love to know how / if airlines account for the liability that exists for the number of points being held by members that can be redeemed at any one time. Sure, we all know that they control the release of award seats on flights but what if 1 million members all cashed some points in for a $50 voucher or gift card at the same time..... QAN has 10 million members and VA has close to 5 million.

Q ranks as 3rd best 'manager' of points schemes worldwide (as a margin).

Q sells point to Wow, car hires etc and gets paid up front. (Cash in the door). Now when people look at Q's B/Sht they see big cash pile and then look for ticket income received not yet earned liability. Virtually no analyst (domestic or overseas) remembers the outstanding points pile as a claim against cash.

Q banks (literally) on earning the interest on the cash held while at the same time (as all schemes do) devaluing the value of points held by people. Have a look at (if you kept the hard copy booklets they use to send out in the late 90s) some of the points cost for shoppings card and cash etc. Cetainly some points devaluation there.

In early 2000s they effectively booked a 35% profit on every $1 of points sold. Haven't done the numbers since then.

The redemption for cash option (or credits) has been optimised to discourage the use by people. For example some years back Citibank found that people (in rapidly increasing numbers) were paying off the annual card fees with points and it was ruining the profitability (% redemptions within 12 months). So they have been hiking the rates. For some cards the effective trade in rate fell 70%.

Then Citi offers Fee Free for life CCs - I never said they were smart!

With Q originally they optimised the points redemption as a yield enhancer but found that people (I wonder who they could have been?) realised there was a better way to use them up. So that was when Q started shifting the cost of a fare out of the official 'fare' and into taxes & surcharges. The bulk of flight redeemers NEVER check to see the cost for a purely cash paid fare when redeeming their points.

Remember the frog and boiling water?

V is on their way to optimise using a somewhat different route but to date they are focussing more on the accumulation phase. So there is still some joy to be had for all.

Hi All,
Klav here, I don't often post in the VA threads, but had an odd conversation with a very pleasant VA customer service person.
I wanted to know if "Redemption" points purchased seats were included in the double status promotion.
She said she had to get her team leader.
Came back and said, no, they were not included.
This sounded odd so after our call, the VA web site was checked.

Here's what it says on their web site

[h=4]How to earn Status Credits[/h] "You will earn Status Credits when you travel on eligible fares with Virgin Australia and our airline partners, plus on eligible Any Seat redemptions and on fares flown as part of a Virgin Australia Holidays package.

Status Credits are used to determine your Velocity membership level. The higher your membership level, the greater the benefits you will receive."

Does any one know for sure?

Cheers.

Its a double points offer NOT Status Credits

Of course, it's double points, not double status.
Doh.
Massive brain fade on my behalf, what a stupid I am.

No, you're not stupid, you just (like all of us) wish it WAS a double Status Credit offer so that's how your brain interpreted it. :)

It does say to allow up to four weeks for the double points to be credited:

Terms and Conditions
*To be eligible for the double Points promotion you must successfully register your Velocity membership number online between 12:01 AM 6 September 2014 and 11:59 PM 13 September and ensure it matches the membership number in your flight booking. You must also book between 6 September and 13 September 2014. You must travel on a flight that is both marketed and operated by Virgin Australia between 15 September 2014 and 26 March 2015 inclusive. Codeshare services marketed or operated by partner airlines are not eligible for this offer. Eligible flights are flights on which Points can be earned and booked in a fare class that normally accrues Points. To find out more visit Velocityfrequentflyer.com. Bonus Points earned are in addition to any Points ordinarily earned and will be applied to base Points only. Any applicable tier bonus earned will not attract bonus Points as a result of this offer. Bonus Points will be applied to the originally purchased fare class and any upgrades will not attract bonus Points as a result of this offer. Points cannot be earned on Velocity Reward Seat bookings. Your Velocity Frequent Flyer number must be recorded at the time of registration. Each passenger must register separately to be eligible for the offer. You should allow up to 4 weeks after the travel period for the bonus Points to be allocated. Normal Velocity rules apply to retrospective claims which must be raised within 6 months from date of flight. For successful retrospective claims please allow 4 weeks from the time the flight appears in your membership account for the bonus Points to be allocated. To earn and redeem Velocity Points you must be a Velocity member. Velocity membership and Points earn and redemption are subject to the Member Terms and Conditions, as amended from time to time.

The terms and conditions for the offer state

" You should allow up to 4 weeks after the travel period for the bonus Points to be allocated." So until 4 weeks have past, it'll just be luck of the draw :D

Well I got excited with the offer and decided it would be the perfect time to book my tickets to New York for Jan/ Feb.

Except the tickets that had extensive availability a day before this promotion and were priced around $1582 have all disappeared and it's now $2800 for the flights!!

Well fancy that - promotion is over and the flights are back to being to the same level they were beforehand - identical dates, identical flights...

Hmmm. I registered about 2hours after the email and then booked for the next day, pushed points and status credits to the missus cause I don't need them. No extra points credited as yet to either of us.
