Qantas indicated that there would be 'initiatives' to get people to use their travel credits before the majority of them expire in 2023, here's one that I personally wasn't expecting.

Use your Qantas travel credit and earn double Qantas Points

Register and book with a Qantas travel credit by 31 January 2023 for travel until 31 December 2023.

If you have a Qantas travel credit to use and are looking to get your points balance soaring, we have some exciting news. Until 31 January 2023, Qantas Frequent Flyers can book any eligible flight using their travel credits and earn double Qantas Points. It’s our way of making sure you get the most out of using your travel credit in 2023. Conditions apply.

Qantas travel credits include Flight Credit, Qantas Pass, Qantas TravelPass and Qantas Credit. If you’re not sure what type of travel credit you have, or are looking for more information, see our travel credit page.

Details (and registration): Travel credit double points promo

Wonder if I can double dip with double SC on my Travel Pass?

You can all thank me as I just used my last travel credit a few days ago.

Either that or DSC's is nearly guaranteed with in a few days after I book a big personal trip...
Please advise on your next big personal trip booking so that I can set an alert. 🔥🔥

I have cancelled and rebooked all my upcoming flex flights with each credit. Didn't ser anything limiting the number of redemptions.

Can you please make your big booking mid January? That's because I have to make mine end of Jan, and I would appreciate a DSC. Thanks.

Nice. I'm not interested in double points, however if they were to a DSC promo for using travel credits I'd be interested, though I would prefer a DSC promo where brand new bookings using cash are also eligible.

That's an interesting loophole. There's nothing in the terms and conditions saying the offer only applies to travel credits created previously?

I wonder what the motivation is here. Is it in Qantas' best interest to have people redeem their travel credit now? I would've thought they would've preferred to have people let their credits expire.

Taking this one step further, nothing stopping you from making some speculative fully flexi bookings now and immediately cancelling them with the knowledge that they will be returned as some form of travel credit and therefore earn 2x points for legitimate future bookings made before end of Jan.

Can you imagine the hell that would break out in the media if Qantas allowed travel credits to expire? Or made it look like they were being sneaky about it and deliberately not reminding people about expiries? Seriously, their reputation has been hammered more than enough recently and they don't need to score another black mark against themselves.

At the very least, if an individuals travel credit expires Qantas will be able to say "We warned you that they were expiring, we even gave you an incentive of double points to use the credit. What else should we do?".

Qantas, in this regard, are operating a whole lot better than other institutions who issue gift cards and credit vouchers. Most of these institutions do set out to ignore them and simply hope they expire unused so they can collect the breakage.

To answer your question:
Motivation: Trying to do they right thing.

They want some goodwill. Also if people that haven't been flying, use their travel credits, once they find that travelling isn't so bad, maybe they will start travelling again making fresh bookings.

I wouldn't be that surprised if they extended the expiry of travel credits one more time, though I wouldn't be that surprised if they didn't do that as well.

Not that I read, just the method of payment and booking/redeeming date were the hurdles.

Only rebooked 5 journeys - will report back if it worked - was only a minor time loss while in the lounge if it doesn't apply.

There has definitely been a big push re credits from QF over the last month or so - reminders in regular emails, reminders in the FF summary screen(iirc), a "Use Flight Credit" tab on the home screen, and so on.

Often QF has been criticised for not being good at reminders of things like expiring points - and they have been pretty poor in the past in this regard but I think this time there's been a real concerted effort to remind customers they have them.

Now, it would be helpful to do individual reminders of credits/passes say 6 months before they actually expire (I mean I keep track and know, but some may not) but as itis I reckon QF has been pretty good in regard to very constant reminders and initiatives like this to get people to use them.

no doubt past Dec 23 some will have them expire and you will see the usual sob stories, but in this case probably unwarranted (at least at this point in time) in my view.

They are probably trying to bring their liability down. While its in QF bests interests to have the credit expire. It still looks bad on the balance sheet to have $xmillions of outstanding credit so they want them off their balance sheet.

Also it says all credit from the looks of it. Meaning could I buy a gift voucher of a small amount then use it to book a flight? I'm just about to purchase a couple of flights so I might give it a go, while I was hoping for DSC this will do for the moment.

The exact wording is:
To be eligible, part or full payment must be made with a Qantas travel credit (including Flight Credit, Qantas Pass, Qantas TravelPass and Qantas Credit)

Nowhere does it says a "Qantas Gift Voucher" or "Qantas Voucher" is included in that, so I wouldn't hold your breath. Although a gift voucher and a Flight Credit work similarly in that the value is held in a PNR as a booking between fictitious points, the Qantas systems can definitely tell the difference - they show up separately in Manage My Booking, for example. I had one of each type until recently and I went back through some various emails, they are quite careful to use the term voucher for the one I bought with cash, and credit for the one that was issued by Qantas due to cancellations.

Let us know how you go however!

Well I just did it and on my gift voucher it says "Qantas Flight Credit" but then also mentions Gift Voucher.

Side note: it's strange it says nothing next to "remaining gift voucher value" that you can see up top. (The amount of the voucher plus reference is cropped out on the bottom left.)

Yes it says go to qantas.com/giftvouchers to redeem. I was able to redeem it on the "use a flight credit" section on QF website.

When you log into your Qantas Profile (Desktop), is there any tab / page where you can see all your flight credits?

I honestly can't remember whether or not I have one and it would be helpful to see that somewhere. Or does anyone know what email subjects I should search for (2020, 2021, and 2022)?

Otherwise, I need to find all PNRs I guess and trial and error in MMB...
