Hi All,
Long time reader of this great site, seldom poster. I turn the big 50 in Nov and am planning a RTW Done 4 then. I was thinking of start/finish in AKL due to cost? But can move it if there are better alternatives? I am in BNE so positioning flts are not too expensive to AKL. I have run my intin via the One World site and so far it is valid for Nov. –

AKL-LAX-ORD-ATL-IAH-MIA-JFK-LAS-LHR-CDG-surface-FCO-HKG-KIX-HKG-PER-BNE-AKL.

Any thoughts? I was going to book the Done 4 via the AA desk in DFW.

The Flts in the USA are where I need/want to go. After FCO I have just joined the dots and can/will move flts elsewhere if there are any better suggestions?

My aim is to go from QC PS to WP. Due to GFC I have dropped back from SG last mth. Mileage Monkey comes back with 1520 SC due to the upgrade to F on AA flts with no J.

I have researched my Done 4 as far as I can on this site; any other ideas, thoughts or feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thks for your time reading this,

Tonybne.

My only comment would be that it is a shame to waste a segment on the CDG,FCO surface segment, given the possibility of a quick journey back to Paris from Rome via rail, then CDG-HKG on CX. It would give you the opportunity to add an extra segment in Asia, or Australia for that matter.

Other than that, a nice itinerary!:)

Agreed!

Enjoy your trip. :)

I trust you have considered that ATL-IAH is a one a day direct (rather than non-stop) flight that does not fly on Saturdays....... Book and get the ticket issued so that schedule changes are the problems of AA and not you.

And with the ability to get cheap flights as well trains, I would also think about whether the LHR-CDG segment can better be used for something longer (thus worth more SC)

Visit Japan tickets book into Y class so add-ons in Japan while in economy are full economy earning and relatively inexpensive.

Also note that surface sectors are included in the sector count. So I see 17 sectors in that routing, so 1 to many.

MM shows as an error with no LAS-LHR flight, but they may not be true.
Agree with the others that LHR-CDG & CDG-FCO are a waste of sectors. Take a cheap flight, or train/chunnel. Avoiding LHR will save big $$ on the UK taxes.
You could also fly into BNE and months later go to PER. You have 12 months to complete. I took 364 days to do a xONEx.

Edit:
LAS-LHR exists as BA Vegas
Will post on the FT MM thread. Routes are manually inputted into MM so not always up to date

Umm, I'm only learning and all that but I can only count 16 sectors being:

AKL-LAX, LAX-ORD, ORD-ATL, ATL-IAH, IAH-MIA MIA-JFK, JFK-LAS, LAS-LHR, LHR-CDG, CDG-FCO, FCO-HKG, HKG-KIX, KIX-HKG, HKG-PER, PER-BNE, BNE-AKL

What am I missing?

I'd second or third the use of the chunnel to Paris to save any extra sectors. or fly direct LAS to CDG if you don't have to visit LHR. FCO back to CDG is likely to be about 10 hours on a train = I can't see the point. Infact I'd probably perfer to fly CDG to FCO if you don't have other plans to see things on the land trip.

BTW I've done FRA-paris-madrid-rome-munich-FRA on a train. So I'm all for using trains...

Turns out nothing. The normal use of the - is a sector. To show a surface sector you use //.

So as I quickly looked at it and counted my through it I saw "CDG-surface-FCO" and counted 2 not 1. I would write it as "CDG//FCO"

Many Thanks,

To all that have posted. I will take the good advice and not waste the LHR-CDG and surface sectors.

Last questions. In realation to price is a start/finsh in AKL a good/fair way to ticket my Done 4? Should I use the One World on line booking tool or book via the AA desk in DWF?.The Au $ is at about 1.24 to the NZ today. The price comes back at about 10,250 Au $ inc taxes using the One World site. Would a TA be able to better this price?

Again Many thanks to all. Will post a TR once I am on my RTW Done 4 !!

Cheers,

Tonybne

I think given the current pricing if you can find a TA willing to book on AA in NZ without serious add-ons, a number of people might be interested in learning about it.

Happy wandering

One thing to consider is who you first flight is with, by booking an AA codeshare flight, say, then you shuold be able to get the same savings on taxes via the online booking tool as by booking via AA. At least my experimenting when the online booking first went live did.
