I have been told that you cannot donate points to charities via Qantas. Is this correct? Which major rewards programs allow you to donate points to charities. Thanks, djc :o

Alternatively you could do a "family transfer" to someone who then makes a cash donation to charity instead

QF usually only offer using points for donations after a major event (such as the vic bushfires last year) That said, it seem from memory it was a very ineffiicent way to use points, and it would have been better to keep the points for use later on and simply make a cash donation to the charity directly.

Using points for charity has taxation implications that were raised last year, specifically you cannot claim the cost while the points program can, in that respect I think its a bit of a con unless the points owner adds extra! Obviously a tax deduction is not the purpose for donating but when a company uses it for PR while claiming it as a tax write off I think you have issues.

From memory most of the US based frequent flyer programs allow donations to charities.

In Australia QFF, Velocity, Priority Club have often asked for donations after major events but the conversion rates were hopeless and you get no receipt for the donation. I prefer to donate cash and get recognition for my donation rather than the faceless corporation taking the credit.

I have some Velocity Miles to donate and can't seem to find a place to donate them to (make a wish foundation was there l was going to off-load them).

Checked out DJ's website, and this is what l got. Google didn't help either.
